The Psalmist in Sickness Complains of Enemies and False Friends.

For the choir director. A Psalm of David.

1 How blessed is he who considers R1252 the helpless; F366

The LORD will deliver him in R1253 a day of trouble. F367

2 The LORD will protect R1254 him and keep him alive,

And he shall be F368 called blessed R1255 upon the earth;

And do R1256 not give him over to the desire of his enemies.

3 The LORD will sustain him upon his sickbed;

In his illness, You restore F369 him to health.

4 As for me, I said, "O LORD, be gracious to me;

Heal R1257 my soul, for I R1258 have sinned against You."

5 My enemies speak R1259 evil against me,

"When will he die, and his name perish?"

6 And when F370 he comes to see me, he speaks R1260 falsehood; F371

His heart gathers wickedness to itself;

When he goes outside, he tells it.

7 All who hate me whisper together against me;

Against me they devise R1261 my hurt, saying,

8 "A wicked thing is poured out upon F372 him,

That when he lies down, he will not R1262 rise up again."

9 Even my close R1263 friend in whom I trusted,

Who ate my bread,

Has lifted up his heel against me.

10 But You, O LORD, be gracious to me and raise R1264 me up,

That I may repay them.

11 By this I know that You R1265 are pleased with me,

Because my R1266 enemy does not shout in triumph over me.

12 As for me, You R1267 uphold me in my integrity,

And You set me in R1268 Your presence forever.

13 Blessed R1269 be the LORD, the God of Israel,

From everlasting to everlasting.

Amen and Amen.
