The Gospel Exalted

1 Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called R1 F1 as an apostle, set R2 apart for the R3 gospel of God, 2 which He promised R4 beforehand through His prophets R5 in the holy Scriptures, 3 concerning His Son, who was born of R6 a descendant F2 of David according R7 to the flesh, 4 who was declared the R8 Son of God with power by F3 the resurrection from the dead, according to the Spirit F4 of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord, 5 through whom we have received grace and apostleship R9 to F5 bring about the obedience R10 of faith among all R11 the Gentiles for His name's sake, 6 among whom you also are the called R12 of Jesus Christ;

7 to all who are beloved R13 of God in Rome, called as saints: R14 F6 Grace R15 to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

8 First, I R16 thank my God through Jesus Christ for F7 you all, because your R17 faith is being proclaimed throughout the whole world. 9 For God, R18 whom I serve R19 in my spirit in the preaching of the gospel of His Son, is my witness as to how unceasingly I R20 make mention of you, 10 always in my prayers making request, if perhaps now at last by the R21 will of God I may succeed in coming to you. 11 For I R22 long to see you so that I may impart some spiritual gift to you, that you may be established; F8 12 that is, that I may be encouraged together with you while among you, each of us by the other's faith, both yours and mine. 13 I R23 do not want you to be unaware, brethren, R24 that often I have R25 planned to come to you (and have been prevented so far) so that I may obtain some fruit R26 among you also, even as among the rest of the Gentiles. 14 I R27 am under F9 obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, R28 both to the wise and to the foolish. 15 So, for my part, I am eager to preach R29 the gospel to you also who are in Rome.

16 For I am not ashamed R30 of the gospel, for it R31 is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew R32 first and also to the R33 Greek. 17 For in it the R34 righteousness of God is revealed from F10 faith to faith; as it is written, "BUT R35 F11 THE RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE BY FAITH."

Unbelief and Its Consequences

18 For the R36 wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress R37 the truth in F12 unrighteousness, 19 because that R38 which is known about God is evident within F13 them; for God made it evident to them. 20 For since R39 the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being R40 understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor F14 Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile R41 in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing R42 to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged R43 the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling F15 creatures.

24 Therefore God R44 gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored R45 among them. 25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a F16 lie, R46 and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who R47 is blessed forever. F17 Amen.

26 For this reason God R48 gave them over to degrading R49 passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, F18 27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men R50 with men committing indecent F19 acts and receiving in their F20 own persons the due penalty of their error.

28 And just as they did not see fit to F21 acknowledge God any longer, God R51 gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, R52 30 slanderers, haters R53 F22 of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient R54 to parents, 31 without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, R55 unmerciful; 32 and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, R56 they not only do the same, but also give R57 hearty approval to those who practice them.
