1 Chronicles 21:7-17 [ Verse 7 in Original: Hebrew / Greek ]
[ Read Chapter | Discuss these Verses ]
7 And God was displeased * (8799) with this thing; therefore he smote (8686) Israel. 8 And David said (8799) unto God, I have sinned (8804) greatly, because I have done (8804) this thing: but now, I beseech thee, do away (8685) the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly (8738). 9 And the LORD spake (8762) unto Gad, David's seer, saying (8800), 10 Go (8798) and tell (8765) David, saying (8800), Thus saith (8804) the LORD, I offer (8802) thee three things: choose (8798) thee one of them, that I may do (8799) it unto thee. 11 So Gad came (8799) to David, and said (8799) unto him, Thus saith (8804) the LORD, Choose (8761) thee 12 Either three years' famine; or three months to be destroyed (8737) before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies (8802) overtaketh (8688) thee; or else three days the sword of the LORD, even the pestilence, in the land, and the angel of the LORD destroying (8688) throughout all the coasts of Israel. Now therefore advise (8798) thyself what word I shall bring again (8686) to him that sent (8802) me. 13 And David said (8799) unto Gad, I am in a great strait (8804): let me fall (8799) now into the hand of the LORD; for very great are his mercies: but let me not fall (8799) into the hand of man. 14 So the LORD sent (8799) pestilence upon Israel: and there fell (8799) of Israel seventy thousand men. 15 And God sent (8799) an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy (8687) it: and as he was destroying (8687), the LORD beheld (8804), and he repented (8735) him of the evil, and said (8799) to the angel that destroyed (8688), It is enough, stay (8685) now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD stood (8802) by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite. 16 And David lifted up (8799) his eyes, and saw (8799) the angel of the LORD stand (8802) between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn (8803) sword in his hand stretched out (8803) over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel, who were clothed (8794) in sackcloth, fell (8799) upon their faces. 17 And David said (8799) unto God, Is it not I that commanded (8804) the people to be numbered (8800)? even I it is that have sinned (8804) and done evil (8689) indeed (8687); but as for these sheep, what have they done (8804)? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my father's house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.
