Christ Is Our Advocate

1 My R32 little children, I am writing R33 these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we R34 have an Advocate R35 F1 with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; 2 and He Himself is the R36 propitiation F2 for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for R37 those of the whole world.

3 By R38 this we know that we have come to know R39 Him, if we keep R40 His commandments. 4 The one who says, "I R41 have come to know R42 Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, R43 and the R44 truth is not in him; 5 but whoever keeps R45 His word, in him the love R46 of God has truly been perfected. By R47 this we know that we are in Him: 6 the one who says he abides R48 in Him ought R49 himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.

7 Beloved, R50 I am not R51 writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from R52 the beginning; the old commandment is the word which you have heard. 8 On F3 the other hand, I am writing a R53 new commandment to you, which is true in Him and in you, because the R54 darkness is passing away and the R55 true Light is already shining. 9 The one who says he is in the Light and yet hates R56 his brother R57 is in the darkness until now. 10 The R58 one who loves his brother abides in the Light and there is no cause for stumbling in him. 11 But the one who hates R59 his brother is in the darkness and walks R60 in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness has blinded R61 his eyes.

12 I am writing to you, little R62 children, because your R63 sins have been forgiven you for His name's sake. 13 I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who R64 has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you R65 have overcome the R66 evil one. I have written to you, children, because you R67 know the Father. 14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who R68 has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, R69 and the word R70 of God abides in you, and you R71 have overcome the evil one.

Do Not Love the World

15 Do not love the R72 world nor the things in the world. If R73 anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the R74 lust of the flesh and the R75 lust of the eyes and the R76 boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17 The R77 world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does R78 the will of God lives forever.

18 Children, it R79 is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist R80 is coming, even R81 now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour. 19 They R82 went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so R83 that it F4 would be shown that they all are not of us. 20 But F5 you have an anointing R84 from the R85 Holy One, and you R86 all know. 21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because R87 you do know it, and because F6 no lie is of R88 the truth. 22 Who is the liar but the R89 one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? F7 This is the R90 antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. 23 Whoever R91 denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also. 24 As for you, let that abide in you which you heard from R92 the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will R93 abide in the Son and in the Father.

The Promise Is Eternal Life

25 This R94 is the promise which He Himself made F8 to us: eternal life.

26 These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to deceive R95 you. 27 As for you, the anointing R96 which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches R97 you about all things, and is true R98 and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you F9 abide in Him.

28 Now, little R99 children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, R100 we may have confidence R101 and not R102 shrink F10 away from Him in shame at F11 His coming. R103 29 If you know that He R104 is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness is R105 born F12 of Him.
