1 Samuel 14:1-15 [ Verse 3 in Original: Hebrew / Greek ]
[ Read Chapter | Discuss these Verses ]
1 Now it came to pass upon a day, that Jonathan the son of Saul said (8799) unto the young man that bare (8802) his armour, Come (8798), and let us go over (8799) to the Philistines' garrison, that is on the other side *. But he told (8689) not his father. 2 And Saul tarried (8802) in the uttermost part of Gibeah under a pomegranate tree which is in Migron: and the people that were with him were about six hundred men; 3 And Ahiah, the son of Ahitub, Ichabod's brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the LORD'S priest in Shiloh, wearing (8802) an ephod. And the people knew (8804) not that Jonathan was gone (8804). 4 And between the passages, by which Jonathan sought (8765) to go over (8800) unto the Philistines' garrison, there was a sharp rock on the one side, and a sharp rock on the other side: and the name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh. 5 The forefront of the one was situate northward over against Michmash, and the other southward over against Gibeah. 6 And Jonathan said (8799) to the young man that bare (8802) his armour, Come (8798), and let us go over (8799) unto the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the LORD will work (8799) for us: for there is no restraint to the LORD to save (8687) by many or by few. 7 And his armourbearer * (8802) said (8799) unto him, Do (8798) all that is in thine heart: turn (8798) thee; behold, I am with thee according to thy heart. 8 Then said (8799) Jonathan, Behold, we will pass over (8802) unto these men, and we will discover (8738) ourselves unto them. 9 If they say (8799) thus unto us, Tarry (8798) until we come (8687) to you; then we will stand still (8804) in our place, and will not go up (8799) unto them. 10 But if they say (8799) thus, Come up (8798) unto us; then we will go up (8804): for the LORD hath delivered (8804) them into our hand: and this shall be a sign unto us. 11 And both of them discovered (8735) themselves unto the garrison of the Philistines: and the Philistines said (8799), Behold, the Hebrews come forth (8802) out of the holes where they had hid (8694) themselves. 12 And the men of the garrison answered (8799) Jonathan and his armourbearer * (8802), and said (8799), Come up (8798) to us, and we will shew (8686) you a thing. And Jonathan said (8799) unto his armourbearer * (8802), Come up (8798) after me: for the LORD hath delivered (8804) them into the hand of Israel. 13 And Jonathan climbed up (8799) upon his hands and upon his feet, and his armourbearer * (8802) after him: and they fell (8799) before Jonathan; and his armourbearer * (8802) slew (8789) after him. 14 And that first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armourbearer * (8802) made (8689), was about twenty men, within as it were an half acre of land, which a yoke of oxen might plow. 15 And there was trembling in the host, in the field, and among all the people: the garrison, and the spoilers (8688), they also trembled (8804), and the earth quaked (8799): so it was a very great trembling.
