1 Samuel 15:10-23 [ Verse 18 in Original: Hebrew / Greek ]
[ Read Chapter | Discuss these Verses ]
10 Then came the word of the LORD unto Samuel, saying (8800), 11 It repenteth (8738) me that I have set up (8689) Saul to be king: for he is turned back (8804) from following me, and hath not performed (8689) my commandments. And it grieved (8799) Samuel; and he cried (8799) unto the LORD all night. 12 And when Samuel rose early (8686) to meet (8800) Saul in the morning, it was told (8714) Samuel, saying (8800), Saul came (8804) to Carmel, and, behold, he set him up (8688) a place, and is gone about (8735), and passed on (8799), and gone down (8799) to Gilgal. 13 And Samuel came (8799) to Saul: and Saul said (8799) unto him, Blessed (8803) be thou of the LORD: I have performed (8689) the commandment of the LORD. 14 And Samuel said (8799), What meaneth then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear (8802)? 15 And Saul said (8799), They have brought (8689) them from the Amalekites: for the people spared (8804) the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice (8800) unto the LORD thy God; and the rest (8802) we have utterly destroyed (8689). 16 Then Samuel said (8799) unto Saul, Stay (8685), and I will tell (8686) thee what the LORD hath said (8765) to me this night. And he said (8799) unto him, Say on (8761). 17 And Samuel said (8799), When thou wast little in thine own sight, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the LORD anointed (8799) thee king over Israel? 18 And the LORD sent (8799) thee on a journey, and said (8799), Go (8798) and utterly destroy (8689) the sinners the Amalekites, and fight (8738) against them until they be consumed (8763). 19 Wherefore then didst thou not obey (8804) the voice of the LORD, but didst fly (8799) upon the spoil, and didst (8799) evil in the sight of the LORD? 20 And Saul said (8799) unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed (8804) the voice of the LORD, and have gone (8799) the way which the LORD sent (8804) me, and have brought (8686) Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed (8689) the Amalekites. 21 But the people took (8799) of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice (8800) unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal. 22 And Samuel said (8799), Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying (8800) the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey (8800) is better than sacrifice, and to hearken (8687) than the fat of rams. 23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness (8687) is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected (8804) the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected (8799) thee from being king.
