1 Samuel 16:14-23 [ Verse 18 in Original: Hebrew / Greek ]
[ Read Chapter | Discuss these Verses ]
14 But the Spirit of the LORD departed (8804) from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled (8765) him. 15 And Saul's servants said (8799) unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth (8764) thee. 16 Let our lord now command (8799) thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out (8762) a man, who is a cunning (8802) player (8764) on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play (8765) with his hand, and thou shalt be well (8804). 17 And Saul said (8799) unto his servants, Provide (8798) me now a man that can play (8763) well (8688), and bring (8689) him to me. 18 Then answered (8799) one of the servants, and said (8799), Behold, I have seen (8804) a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning (8802) in playing (8763), and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent (8737) in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him. 19 Wherefore Saul sent (8799) messengers unto Jesse, and said (8799), Send (8798) me David thy son, which is with the sheep. 20 And Jesse took (8799) an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid *, and sent (8799) them by David his son unto Saul. 21 And David came (8799) to Saul, and stood (8799) before him: and he loved (8799) him greatly; and he became his armourbearer * (8802). 22 And Saul sent (8799) to Jesse, saying (8800), Let David, I pray thee, stand (8799) before me; for he hath found (8804) favour in my sight. 23 And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took (8804) an harp, and played (8765) with his hand: so Saul was refreshed (8804), and was well (8804), and the evil spirit departed (8804) from him.
