1 Samuel 17:48-58 [ Verse 56 in Original: Hebrew / Greek ]
[ Read Chapter | Discuss these Verses ]
48 And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose (8804), and came (8799) and drew nigh (8799) to meet (8800) David, that David hasted (8762), and ran (8799) toward the army to meet (8800) the Philistine. 49 And David put (8799) his hand in his bag, and took (8799) thence a stone, and slang (8762) it, and smote (8686) the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk (8799) into his forehead; and he fell (8799) upon his face to the earth. 50 So David prevailed (8799) over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote (8686) the Philistine, and slew (8686) him; but there was no sword in the hand of David. 51 Therefore David ran (8799), and stood (8799) upon the Philistine, and took (8799) his sword, and drew (8799) it out of the sheath thereof, and slew (8787) him, and cut off (8799) his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw (8799) their champion was dead (8804), they fled (8799). 52 And the men of Israel and of Judah arose (8799), and shouted (8686), and pursued (8799) the Philistines, until thou come (8800) to the valley, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down (8799) by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron. 53 And the children of Israel returned (8799) from chasing (8800) after the Philistines, and they spoiled (8799) their tents. 54 And David took (8799) the head of the Philistine, and brought (8686) it to Jerusalem; but he put (8804) his armour in his tent. 55 And when Saul saw (8800) David go forth (8802) against (8800) the Philistine, he said (8804) unto Abner, the captain of the host, Abner, whose son is this youth? And Abner said (8799), As thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell (8804). 56 And the king said (8799), Enquire (8798) thou whose son the stripling is. 57 And as David returned (8800) from the slaughter (8687) of the Philistine, Abner took (8799) him, and brought (8686) him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand. 58 And Saul said (8799) to him, Whose son art thou, thou young man? And David answered (8799), I am the son of thy servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.
