1 Samuel 22:6-19 [ Verse 7 in Original: Hebrew / Greek ]
[ Read Chapter | Discuss these Verses ]
6 When Saul heard (8799) that David was discovered (8738), and the men that were with him, (now Saul abode (8802) in Gibeah under a tree in Ramah, having his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing (8737) about him;) 7 Then Saul said (8799) unto his servants that stood (8737) about him, Hear now (8798), ye Benjamites; will the son of Jesse give (8799) every one of you fields and vineyards, and make (8799) you all captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds; 8 That all of you have conspired (8804) against me, and there is none that sheweth * (8802) me that my son hath made a league (8800) with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you that is sorry (8802) for me, or sheweth * (8802) unto me that my son hath stirred up (8689) my servant against me, to lie in wait (8802), as at this day? 9 Then answered (8799) Doeg the Edomite, which was set (8737) over the servants of Saul, and said (8799), I saw (8804) the son of Jesse coming (8802) to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub. 10 And he enquired (8799) of the LORD for him, and gave (8804) him victuals, and gave (8804) him the sword of Goliath the Philistine. 11 Then the king sent (8799) to call (8800) Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father's house, the priests that were in Nob: and they came (8799) all of them to the king. 12 And Saul said (8799), Hear (8798) now, thou son of Ahitub. And he answered (8799), Here I am, my lord. 13 And Saul said (8799) unto him, Why have ye conspired (8804) against me, thou and the son of Jesse, in that thou hast given (8800) him bread, and a sword, and hast enquired (8800) of God for him, that he should rise (8800) against me, to lie in wait (8802), as at this day? 14 Then Ahimelech answered (8799) the king, and said (8799), And who is so faithful (8737) among all thy servants as David, which is the king's son in law, and goeth (8804) at thy bidding, and is honourable (8737) in thine house? 15 Did I then begin (8689) to enquire (8800) of God for him? be it far from me: let not the king impute (8799) any thing unto his servant, nor to all the house of my father: for thy servant knew (8804) nothing of all this, less or more. 16 And the king said (8799), Thou shalt surely (8800) die (8799), Ahimelech, thou, and all thy father's house. 17 And the king said (8799) unto the footmen (8801) that stood (8737) about him, Turn (8798), and slay (8685) the priests of the LORD; because their hand also is with David, and because they knew (8804) when he fled (8802), and did not shew * (8804) it to me. But the servants of the king would (8804) not put forth (8800) their hand to fall (8800) upon the priests of the LORD. 18 And the king said (8799) to Doeg, Turn (8798) thou, and fall (8798) upon the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned (8735), and he fell (8799) upon the priests, and slew (8686) on that day fourscore and five persons that did wear (8802) a linen ephod. 19 And Nob, the city of the priests, smote (8689) he with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and sucklings (8802), and oxen, and asses, and sheep, with the edge of the sword.
