7 And David said (8799) to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech's son, I pray thee, bring me hither (8685) the ephod. And Abiathar brought (8686) thither the ephod to David. 8 And David enquired (8799) at the LORD, saying (8800), Shall I pursue (8799) after this troop? shall I overtake (8686) them? And he answered (8799) him, Pursue (8798): for thou shalt surely (8687) overtake (8686) them, and without fail (8687) recover (8686) all. 9 So David went (8799), he and the six hundred men that were with him, and came (8799) to the brook Besor, where those that were left behind (8737) stayed (8804). 10 But David pursued (8799), he and four hundred men: for two hundred abode behind (8799), which were so faint (8765) that they could not go over (8800) the brook Besor. 11 And they found (8799) an Egyptian in the field, and brought (8799) him to David, and gave (8799) him bread, and he did eat (8799); and they made him drink (8686) water; 12 And they gave (8799) him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins: and when he had eaten (8799), his spirit came again (8799) to him: for he had eaten (8804) no bread, nor drunk (8804) any water, three days and three nights. 13 And David said (8799) unto him, To whom belongest thou? and whence art thou? And he said (8799), I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite *; and my master left (8799) me, because three days agone I fell sick (8804). 14 We made an invasion (8804) upon the south of the Cherethites, and upon the coast which belongeth to Judah, and upon the south of Caleb; and we burned (8804) Ziklag with fire. 15 And David said (8799) to him, Canst thou bring me down (8686) to this company? And he said (8799), Swear (8734) unto me by God, that thou wilt neither kill (8686) me, nor deliver (8686) me into the hands of my master, and I will bring thee down (8686) to this company. 16 And when he had brought him down (8686), behold, they were spread abroad (8803) upon all the earth, eating (8802) and drinking (8802), and dancing (8802), because of all the great spoil that they had taken (8804) out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah. 17 And David smote (8686) them from the twilight even unto the evening of the next day: and there escaped (8738) not a man of them, save four hundred young men, which rode (8804) upon camels, and fled (8799). 18 And David recovered (8686) all that the Amalekites had carried away (8804): and David rescued (8689) his two wives. 19 And there was nothing lacking (8738) to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither spoil, nor any thing that they had taken (8804) to them: David recovered (8689) all. 20 And David took (8799) all the flocks and the herds, which they drave (8804) before those other cattle, and said (8799), This is David's spoil.
