A Call to Prayer

1 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties R65 and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2 for R66 kings and all who are in authority, F14 so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. F15 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God R67 our Savior, 4 who R68 desires all men to be saved R69 and to come R70 to the knowledge F16 of the truth. 5 For there is one R71 God, and one R72 mediator also between God and men, the man R73 Christ Jesus, 6 who gave R74 Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony R75 given F17 at the R76 F18 proper time. 7 For R77 this I was appointed a preacher F19 and an R78 apostle (I R79 am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of the R80 Gentiles in faith and truth.

8 Therefore I R81 want the men in R82 every place to pray, lifting R83 up holy R84 hands, without wrath and dissension.

Women Instructed

9 Likewise, I want women R85 to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly F20 and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, 10 but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness. 11 A R86 woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. 12 But R87 I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 For R88 it was Adam who was first created, F21 and then Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the R89 woman being deceived, fell F22 into transgression. 15 But women will be preserved F23 through the bearing of children if they continue in faith R90 and love and sanctity with self-restraint. F24
