Timothy Charged to Guard His Trust

1 Paul, an R1 apostle of Christ R2 Jesus by R3 F1 the will of God, according to the promise of life R4 in Christ Jesus,

2 To Timothy, R5 my beloved son: R6 F2 Grace, R7 mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

3 I R8 thank God, whom I serve R9 with a clear R10 conscience the F3 way my forefathers did, as R11 I constantly remember you in my prayers F4 night and day, 4 longing R12 to see you, even R13 as I recall your tears, so that I may be filled with joy. 5 For F5 I am mindful of the sincere R14 faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your R15 mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well. 6 For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the R16 gift of God which is in you through the R16 laying on of my hands. 7 For God has not given us a spirit R17 of timidity, F6 but of power and love and discipline. F7

8 Therefore do R18 not be ashamed of the testimony R19 of our Lord or of me His R20 prisoner, but join with me in suffering R21 for the gospel R22 according to the power of God, 9 who has saved R23 us and called R24 us with a holy calling, R25 not R26 according to our works, but according to His own purpose R24 and grace which was granted us in Christ R27 Jesus from all R28 eternity, 10 but now R29 has been revealed by the appearing R30 of our Savior Christ R31 Jesus, who abolished R32 death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 11 for R33 which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle and a teacher. 12 For this reason I also suffer these things, but I R34 am not ashamed; for I know whom R35 I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard R36 what I have entrusted to Him until F8 that R37 day. 13 Retain R38 F9 the standard R39 of sound R40 words which R41 you have heard from me, in the faith R42 and love which are in Christ R43 Jesus. 14 Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells R44 in us, the treasure R45 F10 which has been entrusted to you.

15 You are aware of the fact that all who are in Asia R46 F11 turned R47 away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes. 16 The Lord grant mercy to the R48 house of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was R49 not ashamed of my chains; R50 F12 17 but when he was in Rome, he eagerly searched for me and found me-- 18 the Lord grant to him to find mercy from the Lord on that R51 day--and you know very well what services he rendered at Ephesus. R52
