Acts 14:8-18 [ Verse 17 in Original: Greek ]
[ Read Chapter | Discuss these Verses ]
8 At Lystra R813 a R814 man was sitting who had no strength in his feet, lame from his mother's womb, who had never walked. 9 This man was listening to Paul as he spoke, who, when R815 he had fixed his gaze on him and had seen that he had faith R816 to be made F340 well, 10 said with a loud voice, "Stand upright on your feet." And R817 he leaped up and began to walk. 11 When the crowds saw what Paul had done, they raised their voice, saying in the Lycaonian R818 language, "The R819 gods have become like men and have come down to us." 12 And they began calling Barnabas, Zeus, F341 and Paul, Hermes, F342 because he was the F343 chief speaker. 13 The priest of Zeus, whose temple was just F344 outside the city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, and wanted R820 to offer sacrifice with the crowds. 14 But when the R821 apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of it, they tore R822 their robes F345 and rushed out into the crowd, crying out 15 and saying, "Men, why are you doing these things? We are also men R823 of the same nature as you, and preach R824 the gospel to you that you should turn from these vain R825 F346 things to a living R826 God, WHO MADE THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH AND THE SEA AND ALL THAT IS IN THEM. 16 "In F347 the generations gone by He permitted R828 all the nations F348 to go R829 their own ways; 17 and yet He R830 did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good and gave R831 you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying F349 your hearts with food and gladness." 18 Even saying these things, with difficulty they restrained the crowds from offering sacrifice to them.
