"Those at Ease in Zion"

1 Woe R177 to those who are at ease in Zion

And to those who feel secure in the mountain of Samaria,

The distinguished R178 men of the foremost of nations,

To whom the house of Israel comes.

2 Go over to Calneh R179 and look,

And go from there to Hamath R180 the great,

Then go down to Gath R181 of the Philistines.

Are they F67 better than these kingdoms,

Or is their territory greater than yours?

3 Do you put R182 off the day of calamity,

And would you bring R183 near the seat of violence?

4 Those who recline on beds of ivory

And sprawl on their couches, R184

And eat R185 lambs from the flock

And calves from the midst of the stall,

5 Who improvise to the sound of the harp,

And like David have composed F68 songs R186 for themselves,

6 Who drink R187 wine from sacrificial F69 bowls

While they anoint themselves with the finest of oils,

Yet they have not grieved R188 over the ruin of Joseph.

7 Therefore, they will now go R189 into exile at the head of the exiles,

And the sprawlers' R190 banqueting F70 will pass F71 away.

8 The Lord GOD F72 has sworn R191 by Himself, the LORD God of hosts has declared:

"I loathe R192 the arrogance of Jacob,

And detest F73 his citadels; R193

Therefore I will deliver R194 up the city and all F74 it contains."

9 And it will be, if ten R195 men are left in one house, they will die. 10 Then one's uncle, F75 or his undertaker, R196 F76 will lift him up to carry out his bones from the house, and he will say to the one who is in the innermost part of the house, "Is anyone else with you?" And that one will say, "No one." Then he will answer, F77 "Keep R197 quiet. For the F78 name of the LORD is not R198 to be mentioned." 11 For behold, the LORD is going to command R199 that the great R200 house be smashed to pieces and the small house to fragments.

12 Do horses run on rocks?

Or does one plow them F79 with oxen?

Yet you have turned justice R201 into poison

And the fruit of righteousness into wormwood, F80

13 You who rejoice in Lodebar, R202 F81

And F82 say, "Have we not by R203 our own strength taken Karnaim F83 for ourselves?"

14 "For behold, I R204 am going to raise up a nation against you,

O house of Israel," declares the LORD God of hosts,

"And they will afflict you from the entrance R205 of Hamath

To the brook R205 of the Arabah."
