The Two Tablets Replaced

1 Now the LORD said to Moses, "Cut out for yourself two R1083 stone tablets like the former ones, and I R1084 will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets which you shattered. 2 "So be ready by morning, and come up in the morning to Mount R1085 Sinai, and present F742 yourself there to Me on the top of the mountain. 3 "No R1086 man is to come up with you, nor let any man be seen anywhere F743 on the mountain; even the flocks and the herds may not graze in front of that mountain." 4 So he cut out two R1087 stone tablets like the former ones, and Moses rose up early in the morning and went up to Mount Sinai, as the LORD had commanded him, and he took two stone tablets in his hand. 5 The R1088 LORD descended in the cloud and stood there with him as he F744 called upon the name of the LORD. 6 Then the LORD passed by in front of him and proclaimed, "The LORD, the LORD God, compassionate R1089 and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; F745 7 who keeps R1090 lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; yet He will R1091 by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting R1092 the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations." 8 Moses made haste to R1093 F746 bow low toward the earth and worship. 9 He said, "If R1094 now I have found favor in Your sight, O Lord, I pray, let the Lord go along in our midst, even though the R1095 F747 people are so obstinate, and pardon R1096 our iniquity and our sin, and take R1097 us as Your own possession." F748

The Covenant Renewed

10 Then God F749 said, "Behold, I R1098 am going to make a covenant. Before all your people I R1099 will perform miracles which have not been produced F750 in all the earth nor among any of the nations; and all the people among F751 whom you live will see the working of the LORD, for it is a fearful thing that I am going to perform with you.

11 "Be F752 sure to observe what I am commanding you this day: behold, I R1100 am going to drive out the Amorite before you, and the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite and the Jebusite. 12 "Watch R1101 yourself that you make no covenant with the inhabitants of the land into which you are going, or it will become a snare in your midst. 13 "But R1102 rather, you are to tear down their altars and smash their sacred pillars and cut down their Asherim R1103 F753 14 --for you R1104 shall not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God-- 15 otherwise you might make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land and they would play the harlot with their gods and sacrifice R1105 to their gods, and someone might R1106 invite you to F754 eat of his sacrifice, 16 and you R1107 might take some of his daughters for your sons, and his daughters might play the harlot with their gods and cause your sons also to play the harlot with their gods. 17 "You R1108 shall make for yourself no molten gods.

18 "You shall observe the R1109 Feast of Unleavened Bread. For seven R1110 days you are to eat unleavened bread, as F755 I commanded you, at the appointed time in the month R1111 of Abib, for in the month of Abib you came out of Egypt.

19 "The R1112 first offspring from every womb belongs to Me, and all your male livestock, the first offspring from cattle F756 and sheep. 20 "You R1113 shall redeem with a lamb the first F757 offspring from a donkey; and if you do not redeem it, then you shall break its neck. You shall redeem all R1114 the firstborn of your sons. None R1115 F758 shall appear before Me empty-handed.

21 "You shall work six R1116 days, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during plowing time and harvest you shall rest. 22 "You shall celebrate the R1117 Feast of Weeks, that is, the first fruits of the wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the turn of the year. 23 "Three R1118 times a year all your males are to appear before the Lord GOD F759 , the God of Israel. 24 "For I will drive R1119 F760 out nations before you and enlarge your borders, and no man shall covet your land when you go up three times a year to appear before the LORD your God.

25 "You R1120 shall not offer F761 the blood of My sacrifice with leavened bread, nor R1121 is the sacrifice of the Feast of the Passover to be F762 left over until morning.

26 "You shall bring the R1122 very first of the first fruits of your soil into the house of the LORD your God.

"You shall not boil a young goat in its mother's milk."

27 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write R1123 down F763 these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a R1124 covenant with you and with Israel." 28 So he was there with the LORD forty R1125 days and forty nights; he did not eat bread or drink water. And he R1126 F764 wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the R1127 Ten Commandments. F765

Moses' Face Shines

29 It came about when Moses was coming down from Mount Sinai (and the two R1128 tablets of the testimony were in Moses' hand as he was coming down from the mountain), that Moses did not know that the R1129 skin of his face shone because of his speaking with Him. 30 So when Aaron and all the sons of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone, and they R1130 were afraid to come near him. 31 Then Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the rulers in the congregation returned to him; and Moses spoke to them. 32 Afterward all the sons of Israel came near, and he commanded them to do everything that the LORD had spoken to F766 him on Mount Sinai. 33 When Moses had finished speaking with them, he R1131 put a veil over his face. 34 But whenever Moses went in before the LORD to speak with Him, he R1132 would take off the veil until he came out; and whenever he came out and spoke to the sons of Israel what he had been commanded, 35 the R1133 sons of Israel would see the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses' face shone. So Moses would replace the veil over his face until he went in to speak with Him.
