Genesis 31:25-35 [ Verse 35 in Original: Hebrew / Greek ]
[ Read Chapter | Discuss these Verses ]
25 Then Laban overtook (8686) Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched (8804) his tent in the mount: and Laban with his brethren pitched (8804) in the mount of Gilead. 26 And Laban said (8799) to Jacob, What hast thou done (8804), that thou hast stolen away (8799) unawares to me, and carried away (8762) my daughters, as captives (8803) taken with the sword? 27 Wherefore didst thou flee away (8800) secretly (8738), and steal away (8799) from me; and didst not tell (8689) me, that I might have sent thee away (8762) with mirth, and with songs, with tabret, and with harp? 28 And hast not suffered (8804) me to kiss (8763) my sons and my daughters? thou hast now done foolishly (8689) in so doing (8800). 29 It is in the power of my hand to do (8800) you hurt: but the God of your father spake (8804) unto me yesternight, saying (8800), Take thou heed (8734) that thou speak not (8763) to Jacob either good or bad. 30 And now, though thou wouldest needs (8800) be gone (8804), because thou sore (8736) longedst (8738) after thy father's house, yet wherefore hast thou stolen (8804) my gods? 31 And Jacob answered (8799) and said (8799) to Laban, Because I was afraid (8804): for I said (8804), Peradventure thou wouldest take by force (8799) thy daughters from me. 32 With whomsoever thou findest (8799) thy gods, let him not live (8799): before our brethren discern (8685) thou what is thine with me, and take (8798) it to thee. For Jacob knew (8804) not that Rachel had stolen (8804) them. 33 And Laban went (8799) into Jacob's tent, and into Leah's tent, and into the two maidservants' tents; but he found (8804) them not. Then went he out (8799) of Leah's tent, and entered (8799) into Rachel's tent. 34 Now Rachel had taken (8804) the images, and put (8799) them in the camel's furniture, and sat (8799) upon them. And Laban searched (8762) all the tent, but found (8804) them not. 35 And she said (8799) to her father, Let it not displease * (8799) my lord that I cannot (8799) rise up (8800) before thee; for the custom of women is upon me. And he searched (8762), but found (8804) not the images.
