Genesis 40:5-19 [ Verse 8 in Original: Hebrew / Greek ]
[ Read Chapter | Discuss these Verses ]
5 And they dreamed (8799) a dream both of them, each man his dream in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler (8688) and the baker (8802) of the king of Egypt, which were bound (8803) in the prison *. 6 And Joseph came in (8799) unto them in the morning, and looked (8799) upon them, and, behold, they were sad (8802). 7 And he asked (8799) Pharaoh's officers that were with him in the ward of his lord's house, saying (8800), Wherefore look ye so sadly to day? 8 And they said (8799) unto him, We have dreamed (8804) a dream, and there is no interpreter (8802) of it. And Joseph said (8799) unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me (8761) them, I pray you. 9 And the chief butler (8688) told (8762) his dream to Joseph, and said (8799) to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me; 10 And in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded (8802), and her blossoms shot forth (8804); and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe (8689) grapes: 11 And Pharaoh's cup was in my hand: and I took (8799) the grapes, and pressed (8799) them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave (8799) the cup into Pharaoh's hand. 12 And Joseph said (8799) unto him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days: 13 Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up (8799) thine head, and restore (8689) thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver (8804) Pharaoh's cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler (8688). 14 But think (8804) on me when it shall be well (8799) with thee, and shew (8804) kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention (8689) of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me (8689) out of this house: 15 For indeed I was stolen away (8795) out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done (8804) nothing that they should put (8804) me into the dungeon. 16 When the chief baker (8802) saw (8799) that the interpretation (8804) was good, he said (8799) unto Joseph, I also was in my dream, and, behold, I had three white baskets on my head: 17 And in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of bakemeats * (8802) for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat (8802) them out of the basket upon my head. 18 And Joseph answered (8799) and said (8799), This is the interpretation thereof: The three baskets are three days: 19 Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up (8799) thy head from off thee, and shall hang (8804) thee on a tree; and the birds shall eat (8804) thy flesh from off thee.
