God's Deliverance of His People

1 A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, according to Shigionoth. F39

2 LORD, I have heard R80 the F40 report about You and I F41 fear. R81

O LORD, revive R82 Your R83 work in the midst of the years,

In the midst of the years make it known;

In wrath remember mercy. R84 F42

3 God comes from Teman, R85

And the Holy One from Mount Paran. R86 Selah.

His splendor R87 covers the heavens,

And the earth R88 is full of His praise.

4 His radiance R89 is like the sunlight;

He has rays flashing from His hand,

And there is the hiding of His power. R90

5 Before Him goes pestilence, R91

And plague R92 comes after F43 Him.

6 He stood and surveyed the earth;

He looked and startled R93 the nations.

Yes, the perpetual mountains were shattered,

The ancient hills collapsed. F44

His ways are everlasting. R94

7 I saw the tents of Cushan under distress, R95

The tent curtains of the land of Midian R96 were trembling.

8 Did the LORD rage against the rivers, R97

Or was Your anger against the rivers,

Or was Your wrath against the sea, R98

That You rode R99 on Your horses,

On Your chariots R100 of salvation?

9 Your bow R101 was made bare,

The rods of chastisement F45 were sworn. Selah.

You cleaved R102 the earth with rivers.

10 The mountains saw You and quaked;

The downpour of waters swept by.

The deep uttered R103 forth its voice,

It lifted high its hands.

11 Sun R104 and moon stood in their places;

They went away at the light R105 of Your arrows,

At the radiance of Your gleaming spear.

12 In indignation You marched R106 through the earth;

In anger You trampled R107 F46 the nations.

13 You went forth for the salvation R108 of Your people,

For the salvation of Your anointed. R109

You struck the head R110 of the house of the evil

To lay him open from thigh F47 to neck. Selah.

14 You pierced with his own R111 spears F48

The head of his throngs. F49

They stormed R112 in to scatter us; F50

Their exultation was like those

Who devour R113 the oppressed in secret.

15 You trampled R114 on the sea with Your horses,

On the surge R115 of many waters.

16 I heard and my inward F51 parts trembled, R116

At the sound my lips quivered.

Decay enters my bones, R117

And in my place I tremble.

Because I must wait R118 quietly for the day of distress,

For F52 the people R119 to arise who will invade us.

17 Though the fig R120 tree should not blossom

And there be no fruit F53 on the vines,

Though the yield of the olive R121 should fail

And the fields produce no food,

Though the flock R122 should be cut off from the fold

And there be no R123 cattle in the stalls,

18 Yet I will exult R124 in the LORD,

I will rejoice R125 in the God R126 of my salvation.

19 The Lord GOD F54 is my strength, R127

And He R128 has made my feet like hinds' feet,

And makes me walk on my high R129 places.

For the choir director, on my stringed instruments.
