Isaiah 28:14-22 [ Verse 19 in Original: Hebrew / Greek ]
[ Read Chapter | Discuss these Verses ]
14 Wherefore hear (8798) the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule (8802) this people which is in Jerusalem. 15 Because ye have said (8804), We have made (8804) a covenant with death, and with hell are we (8804) at agreement; when the overflowing (8802) scourge * (8675) shall pass through (8799) (8675) (8804), it shall not come (8799) unto us: for we have made (8804) lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid (8738) ourselves: 16 Therefore thus saith (8804) the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay (8765) in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure (8716) foundation: he that believeth (8688) shall not make haste (8686). 17 Judgment also will I lay (8804) to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away (8804) the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow (8799) the hiding place. 18 And your covenant with death shall be disannulled (8795), and your agreement with hell shall not stand (8799); when the overflowing (8802) scourge shall pass through (8799), then ye shall be trodden down by it. 19 From the time that it goeth forth (8800) it shall take (8799) you: for morning by morning shall it pass over (8799), by day and by night: and it shall be a vexation only to understand (8687) the report. 20 For the bed is shorter (8804) than that a man can stretch (8692) himself on it: and the covering narrower (8804) than that he can wrap (8692) himself in it. 21 For the LORD shall rise up (8799) as in mount Perazim, he shall be wroth (8799) as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do (8800) his work, his strange (8801) work; and bring to pass (8800) his act, his strange act. 22 Now therefore be ye not mockers (8698), lest your bands be made strong (8799): for I have heard (8804) from the Lord GOD of hosts a consumption, even determined (8737) upon the whole earth.
