Salvation Reaches to the End of the Earth

1 Listen to Me, O islands, R1996

And pay attention, you peoples from afar.

The R1997 LORD called Me from the womb;

From the body F700 of My mother He named Me.

2 He has made My mouth R1998 like a sharp sword,

In the shadow R1999 of His hand He has concealed Me;

And He has also made Me a select F701 arrow, R2000

He has hidden Me in His quiver.

3 He said to Me, "You R2001 are My Servant, Israel,

In R2002 Whom I will show F702 My glory."

4 But I said, "I have toiled R2003 in vain,

I have spent My strength for nothing and vanity;

Yet surely the justice due to Me is with the LORD,

And My reward R2004 with My God."

5 And now says the R2005 LORD, who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant,

To bring Jacob back to Him, so that Israel R2006 might be gathered to Him

(For I am honored R2007 in the sight of the LORD,

And My God is My strength), R2008

6 He says, "It is too small F703 a thing that You should be My Servant

To raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved R2009 ones of Israel;

I will also make You a light R2010 of F704 the nations

So that My salvation may reach F705 to the end R2011 of the earth."

7 Thus says the LORD, the Redeemer R2012 of Israel and its Holy One,

To the despised R2013 One,

To the One abhorred by the nation,

To the Servant of rulers,

"Kings R2014 will see and arise,

Princes will also bow R2015 down,

Because of the LORD who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel who has chosen You."

8 Thus says the LORD,

"In a favorable R2016 time I have answered You,

And in a day of salvation I have helped You;

And I will keep R2017 You and give R2018 You for a covenant of the people,

To restore R2019 F706 the land, to make them inherit the desolate heritages;

9 Saying to those who are bound, R2020 `Go forth,'

To those who are in darkness, `Show yourselves.'

Along the roads they will feed,

And their pasture will be on all bare R2021 heights.

10 "They will not R2022 hunger or thirst,

Nor will the scorching heat R2023 or sun strike them down;

For He R2024 who has compassion on them will lead R2025 them

And will guide them to springs R2026 of water.

11 "I will make all My R2027 mountains a road,

And My highways R2028 will be raised up.

12 "Behold, these will come from R2029 afar;

And lo, these will come from the north R2030 and from the west,

And these from the land of Sinim."

13 Shout R2031 for joy, O heavens! And rejoice, O earth!

Break forth into joyful shouting, O mountains!

For the LORD R2032 has comforted His people

And will have R2033 compassion on His afflicted.

Promise to Zion

14 But Zion said, "The LORD has forsaken me,

And the Lord has forgotten me."

15 "Can a woman forget her nursing child

And have no compassion on the son of her womb?

Even these may forget, but I R2034 will not forget you.

16 "Behold, I have inscribed R2035 you on the palms of My hands;

Your walls R2036 are continually before Me.

17 "Your builders F707 hurry;

Your destroyers R2037 and devastators

Will depart from you.

18 "Lift R2038 up your eyes and look around;

All R2039 of them gather together, they R2040 come to you.

As R2041 I live," declares the LORD,

"You will surely put R2042 on all of them as jewels F708 and bind them on as a bride.

19 "For your R2043 waste and desolate places and your destroyed land--

Surely now you will be too R2044 cramped for the inhabitants,

And those who swallowed R2045 you will be far away.

20 "The children R2046 of whom F709 you were bereaved will yet say in your ears,

`The place is too cramped for me;

Make room for me that I may live here.'

21 "Then you will say R2047 in your heart,

`Who has begotten these for me,

Since I have been bereaved of my children

And am barren, R2048 an exile R2049 and a wanderer?

And who has reared these?

Behold, I was left R2050 alone;

From R2051 F710 where did these come?' "

22 Thus says the Lord GOD F711 , "Behold, I will lift up My hand to the nations And set up My standard R2052 to the peoples; And they will bring R2053 your sons in their bosom, And your daughters will be carried on their shoulders.

23 "Kings R2054 will be your guardians,

And their princesses your nurses.

They will bow R2055 down to you with their faces to the earth

And lick R2056 the dust of your feet;

And you will know R2057 that I am the LORD;

Those who hopefully wait R2058 for Me will not R2059 be put to shame.

24 "Can R2060 the prey be taken from the mighty man,

Or the captives of a F712 tyrant be rescued?"

25 Surely, thus says the LORD, "Even the captives R2061 of the mighty man will be taken away, And the prey of the tyrant will be rescued; For I will contend with the one who contends with you, And I will save R2062 your sons.

26 "I will feed your oppressors R2063 with their own R2064 flesh,

And they will become drunk with their own blood as with sweet wine;

And all R2065 flesh will know that I, the LORD, am your Savior R2066

And your Redeemer, R2067 the Mighty One of Jacob."
