The Suffering Servant

1 Who R2194 has believed our message?

And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?

2 For He grew up before Him like a tender R2195 shoot, F734

And like a root out of parched ground;

He has no R2196 stately form or majesty

That we should look upon Him,

Nor appearance that we should be F735 attracted to Him.

3 He was despised R2197 and forsaken of men,

A man of sorrows F736 and acquainted R2198 with grief; F737

And like one from whom men hide their face

He was despised, R2199 and we did not esteem R2200 Him.

4 Surely our griefs F738 He Himself bore, R2201

And our sorrows F739 He carried;

Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken,

Smitten F740 of God, R2202 and afflicted.

5 But He was pierced F741 through for our R2203 transgressions,

He was crushed for our R2204 iniquities;

The chastening R2205 for our well-being F742 fell upon Him,

And by His R2206 scourging we are healed.

6 All of us like sheep have gone astray,

Each of us has turned to his own way;

But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all

To fall F743 on Him.

7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted,

Yet He did not open R2207 His mouth;

Like R2208 a lamb that is led to slaughter,

And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers,

So He did not open His mouth.

8 By oppression and judgment He was taken away;

And as for His generation, who considered

That He was cut off out of the land of the living F744

For R2209 the transgression of my people, to whom the stroke was due?

9 His grave was assigned with wicked men,

Yet He was with a rich R2210 man in His death,

Because R2211 He had done R2212 no violence,

Nor was there any deceit in His mouth.

10 But the LORD was pleased

To crush R2213 Him, putting R2214 F745 Him to grief;

If He F746 would render Himself as a guilt offering, R2215

He will see His R2216 offspring, F747

He will prolong His days,

And the good F748 pleasure R2217 of the LORD will prosper in His hand.

11 As a result of the anguish F749 of His soul,

He will see R2218 it F750 and be satisfied;

By His knowledge R2219 the Righteous One,

My Servant, will justify the many,

As He will bear R2220 their iniquities.

12 Therefore, I will allot Him a portion R2221 with the great,

And He will divide the booty with the strong;

Because He poured out Himself R2222 F751 to death,

And was numbered R2223 with the transgressors;

Yet He Himself bore R2224 the sin of many,

And interceded for the transgressors.
