Evil Leaders Rebuked

1 The righteous man perishes, and no man takes R2336 it to heart;

And devout men are taken away, while no one understands.

For the righteous man is taken away from evil, R2337

2 He enters into peace;

They rest in their beds, F777

Each one who walked R2338 in his upright way.

3 "But come here, you sons of a sorceress, R2339

Offspring R2340 of an adulterer and a F778 prostitute. R2341

4 "Against whom do you jest?

Against whom do you open wide your mouth

And stick out your tongue?

Are you not children of rebellion, R2342

Offspring of deceit,

5 Who inflame yourselves among the oaks, R2343 F779

Under R2344 every luxuriant tree,

Who slaughter R2345 the children in the ravines, F780

Under the clefts of the crags?

6 "Among the smooth R2346 F781 stones of the ravine F782

Is your portion, they F783 are your lot;

Even to them you have poured R2347 out a drink offering,

You have made a grain offering.

Shall I relent R2348 F784 concerning these things?

7 "Upon a high R2349 and lofty mountain

You have made R2350 your bed.

You also went up there to offer sacrifice.

8 "Behind the door and the doorpost

You have set up your sign;

Indeed, far removed from Me, you have uncovered R2351 yourself,

And have gone up and made your bed wide.

And you have made an agreement for yourself with them,

You have loved their bed, F785

You have looked on their manhood. F786

9 "You have journeyed to the king with oil

And increased your perfumes;

You have sent R2352 your envoys a great distance

And made them go down to Sheol. F787

10 "You were tired out by the length of your road,

Yet you did not say, `It R2353 is hopeless.'

You found renewed F788 strength,

Therefore you did not faint. F789

11 "Of whom R2354 were you worried and fearful

When you lied, and did not R2355 remember Me

Nor F790 give R2356 Me a thought?

Was I not silent even for a long time

So you do not fear Me?

12 "I will declare R2357 your righteousness and your deeds, R2358

But they will not profit you.

13 "When you cry out, let R2359 your collection of idols deliver you.

But the wind will carry all of them up,

And a breath will take them away.

But he who takes R2360 refuge in Me will inherit R2361 the land

And will possess R2362 My holy mountain."

14 And it will be said,

"Build R2363 up, build up, prepare the way,

Remove every obstacle out of the way of My people."

15 For thus says the high R2364 and exalted One

Who lives R2365 F791 forever, whose name is Holy,

"I dwell R2366 on a high and holy place,

And also with the contrite R2367 and lowly of spirit

In order to revive R2368 the spirit of the lowly

And to revive the heart of the contrite.

16 "For I will not R2369 contend forever,

Nor R2370 will I always be angry;

For the spirit would grow faint before Me,

And the breath R2371 of those whom I have made.

17 "Because of the iniquity of his unjust R2372 gain I was angry and struck him;

I hid My face and was angry,

And he went on turning R2373 away, in the way of his heart.

18 "I have seen his ways, but I will heal R2374 him;

I will lead R2375 him and restore R2376 comfort to him and to his mourners,

19 Creating the praise R2377 F792 of the lips.

Peace, R2378 peace to him who is far R2379 and to him who is near,"

Says the LORD, "and I will heal him."

20 But the wicked R2380 are like the tossing sea,

For it cannot be quiet,

And its waters toss up refuse and mud.

21 "There R2381 is no peace," says my R2382 God, "for the wicked."
