Separation from God

1 Behold, the R2427 LORD'S hand is not so short

That it cannot save;

Nor R2428 is His ear so dull

That it cannot hear.

2 But your iniquities R2429 have made a separation between you and your God,

And your sins have hidden His face F802 from you so that He does not R2430 hear.

3 For your hands R2431 are defiled with blood

And your fingers with iniquity;

Your lips have spoken falsehood, R2432

Your tongue mutters wickedness.

4 No R2433 one sues righteously and no R2434 one pleads honestly. F803

They trust R2435 in confusion and speak lies;

They conceive R2436 mischief and bring forth iniquity.

5 They hatch adders' eggs and weave R2437 the spider's web;

He who eats of their eggs dies,

And from that which is crushed a snake breaks forth.

6 Their webs will not become clothing,

Nor will they cover R2438 themselves with their works;

Their works R2439 are works of iniquity,

And an act R2440 of violence is in their hands. F804

7 Their R2441 feet run to evil,

And they hasten to shed innocent blood;

Their R2442 thoughts are thoughts of iniquity,

Devastation and destruction are in their highways.

8 They do not know the way R2443 of peace,

And there is no R2444 justice in their tracks;

They have made their paths crooked,

Whoever R2445 treads on them F805 does not know peace.

A Confession of Wickedness

9 Therefore justice R2446 is far from us,

And righteousness does not overtake us;

We hope R2447 for light, but behold, darkness,

For brightness, but we walk in gloom.

10 We grope R2448 along the wall like blind men,

We grope like those who have no eyes;

We stumble R2449 at midday as in the twilight,

Among those who are vigorous we are like R2450 dead men.

11 All of us growl like bears,

And moan R2451 sadly like doves;

We hope for justice, R2452 but there is none,

For salvation, but it is far from us.

12 For our transgressions R2453 are multiplied before You,

And our sins R2454 testify F806 against us;

For our transgressions are with us,

And we F807 know our iniquities:

13 Transgressing and denying R2455 the LORD,

And turning away from our God,

Speaking oppression R2456 and revolt,

Conceiving in and uttering R2457 from the heart lying words.

14 Justice R2458 is turned back,

And righteousness R2459 stands far away;

For truth has stumbled in the street,

And uprightness cannot enter.

15 Yes, truth is lacking;

And he who turns aside from evil makes R2460 himself a prey.

Now the LORD saw,

And it was displeasing F808 in His sight that R2461 there was no justice.

16 And He saw that there was no R2462 man,

And was astonished that there was no one to intercede;

Then His own R2463 arm brought salvation to Him,

And His righteousness upheld Him.

17 He put on righteousness R2464 like a breastplate,

And a helmet R2465 of salvation on His head;

And He put on garments R2466 of vengeance for clothing

And wrapped Himself with zeal R2467 as a mantle.

18 According R2468 to their deeds, F809 so F810 He will repay,

Wrath to His adversaries, recompense to His enemies;

To the coastlands He will make F811 recompense.

19 So they will fear the name of the LORD from the west R2469

And His glory from the rising R2470 of the sun,

For He will come R2471 like a rushing F812 stream

Which the wind of the LORD drives.

20 "A Redeemer R2472 will come to Zion,

And to those who turn R2473 from transgression in Jacob," declares the LORD.

21 "As for Me, this is My covenant R2474 with them," says the LORD: "My Spirit R2475 which is upon you, and My words R2476 which I have put in your mouth shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your offspring, F813 nor from the mouth of your offspring's F813 offspring," says the LORD, "from now and forever."
