Exaltation of the Afflicted
1 The Spirit R2534 of the Lord GOD F823 is upon me,
Because the LORD has anointed me
To bring R2535 good news to the afflicted; R2536 F824
He has sent me to bind R2537 up the brokenhearted,
To proclaim R2538 liberty to captives
And freedom F825 to prisoners;
2 To proclaim R2539 the favorable year of the LORD
And the day R2540 of vengeance of our God;
To comfort R2541 all who mourn,
3 To grant R2542 those who mourn in Zion,
Giving them a garland instead of ashes,
The oil R2543 of gladness instead of mourning,
The mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting.
So they will be called oaks R2544 F826 of righteousness,
The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.
4 Then they will rebuild R2545 the ancient ruins,
They will raise up the former devastations;
And they will repair the ruined cities,
The desolations of many generations.
5 Strangers R2546 will stand and pasture your flocks,
And foreigners F827 will be your farmers and your vinedressers.
6 But you will be called the priests R2547 of the LORD;
You will be spoken of as ministers R2548 of our God.
You will eat the wealth R2549 of nations,
And in their riches F828 you will boast.
7 Instead of your shame R2550 you will have a double R2551 portion,
And instead of humiliation they will shout for joy over their portion.
Therefore they will possess a double portion in their land,
Everlasting R2552 joy will be theirs.
8 For I, the LORD, love R2553 justice,
I hate robbery in F829 the burnt offering;
And I will faithfully give them their recompense
And make an everlasting R2554 covenant with them.
9 Then their offspring will be known among the nations,
And their descendants in the midst of the peoples.
All who see them will recognize them
Because they are the offspring R2555 whom the LORD has blessed.
10 I will rejoice R2556 greatly in the LORD,
My soul will exult in my R2557 God;
For He has clothed R2558 me with garments of salvation,
He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness,
As a bridegroom decks himself with a garland,
And as R2559 a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
11 For as the earth R2560 brings forth its sprouts,
And as a garden causes the things sown in it to spring up,
So the Lord GOD F830 will cause R2561 righteousness R2562 and praise
To spring up before all the nations.
