Jeremiah 23:9-32 [ Verse 27 in Original: Hebrew / Greek ]
[ Read Chapter | Discuss these Verses ]
9 Mine heart within me is broken (8738) because of the prophets; all my bones shake (8804); I am like a drunken man, and like a man whom wine hath overcome (8804), because of the LORD, and because of the words of his holiness. 10 For the land is full (8804) of adulterers (8764); for because of swearing the land mourneth (8804); the pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up (8804), and their course is evil, and their force is not right. 11 For both prophet and priest are profane (8804); yea, in my house have I found (8804) their wickedness, saith (8803) the LORD. 12 Wherefore their way shall be unto them as slippery ways in the darkness: they shall be driven on (8735), and fall (8804) therein: for I will bring (8686) evil upon them, even the year of their visitation, saith (8803) the LORD. 13 And I have seen (8804) folly in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied (8694) in Baal, and caused my people Israel to err (8686). 14 I have seen (8804) also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery (8800), and walk (8800) in lies: they strengthen (8765) also the hands of evildoers (8688), that none doth return (8804) from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants (8802) thereof as Gomorrah. 15 Therefore thus saith (8804) the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets; Behold, I will feed (8688) them with wormwood, and make them drink (8689) the water of gall: for from the prophets of Jerusalem is profaneness gone forth (8804) into all the land. 16 Thus saith (8804) the LORD of hosts, Hearken (8799) not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy (8737) unto you: they make you vain (8688): they speak (8762) a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD. 17 They say (8802) still (8800) unto them that despise (8764) me, The LORD hath said (8765), Ye shall have peace; and they say (8804) unto every one that walketh (8802) after the imagination of his own heart, No evil shall come (8799) upon you. 18 For who hath stood (8804) in the counsel of the LORD, and hath perceived (8799) and heard (8799) his word? who hath marked (8689) his word, and heard (8799) it? 19 Behold, a whirlwind of the LORD is gone forth (8804) in fury, even a grievous (8711) whirlwind: it shall fall grievously (8799) upon the head of the wicked. 20 The anger of the LORD shall not return (8799), until he have executed (8800), and till he have performed (8687) the thoughts of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider (8709) it perfectly. 21 I have not sent (8804) these prophets, yet they ran (8804): I have not spoken (8765) to them, yet they prophesied (8738). 22 But if they had stood (8804) in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear (8686) my words, then they should have turned (8686) them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings. 23 Am I a God at hand, saith (8803) the LORD, and not a God afar off? 24 Can any hide (8735) himself in secret places that I shall not see (8799) him? saith (8803) the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith (8803) the LORD. 25 I have heard (8804) what the prophets said (8804), that prophesy (8737) lies in my name, saying (8800), I have dreamed (8804), I have dreamed (8804). 26 How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy (8737) lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart; 27 Which think (8802) to cause my people to forget (8687) my name by their dreams which they tell (8762) every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten (8804) my name for Baal. 28 The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell (8762) a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak (8762) my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith (8803) the LORD. 29 Is not my word like as a fire? saith (8803) the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces (8787)? 30 Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith (8803) the LORD, that steal (8764) my words every one from his neighbour. 31 Behold, I am against the prophets, saith (8803) the LORD, that use (8802) their tongues, and say (8799), He saith (8803). 32 Behold, I am against them that prophesy (8737) false dreams, saith (8803) the LORD, and do tell (8762) them, and cause my people to err (8686) by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent (8804) them not, nor commanded (8765) them: therefore they shall not profit (8686) this people at all (8687), saith (8803) the LORD.
