Deliverance from Captivity Promised

1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, 2 "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, `Write R1476 all the words which I have spoken to you in a book. 3 `For behold, days R1477 are coming,' declares the LORD, `when I will restore R1478 the fortunes F281 of My people Israel R1479 and Judah.' The LORD says, `I will also bring R1480 them back to the land that I gave to their forefathers and they shall possess it.' "

4 Now these are the words which the LORD spoke concerning Israel and concerning Judah:

5 "For thus says the LORD, `I F282 have heard a sound of terror, R1481 Of dread, and there is no peace.

6 `Ask now, and see

If a male can give birth.

Why do I see every man

With his hands on his loins, as R1482 a woman in childbirth?

And why have all faces turned pale?

7 `Alas! for that day R1483 is great,

There is none R1484 like it;

And it is the time of Jacob's distress, R1485

But he will be saved R1486 from it.

8 `It shall come about on that day,' declares the LORD of hosts, `that I will break R1487 his yoke from off their F283 neck and will tear off their F283 bonds; R1488 and strangers will no longer make R1489 them F284 their slaves. 9 `But they shall serve the LORD their God and David R1490 their king, whom I will raise up for them.

10 `Fear R1491 not, O Jacob My servant,' declares the LORD,

`And do not be dismayed, O Israel;

For behold, I will save you from R1492 afar

And your offspring F285 from the land of their captivity.

And Jacob will return and will be quiet R1493 and at ease,

And no R1494 one will make him afraid.

11 `For I R1495 am with you,' declares the LORD, `to save you;

For I will destroy R1496 completely all the nations where I have scattered you,

Only I will not R1497 destroy you completely.

But I will chasten R1498 you justly

And will by no means leave you unpunished.'

12 "For thus says the LORD,

`Your wound is incurable

And your injury R1499 is serious.

13 `There is no one to plead your cause;

No healing for your sore,

No R1500 recovery for you.

14 `All your lovers R1501 have forgotten you,

They do not seek you;

For I have wounded R1502 you with the wound of an enemy,

With the punishment R1503 of a cruel R1504 one,

Because your iniquity R1505 is great

And your sins R1506 are numerous.

15 `Why do you cry out over your injury?

Your pain is incurable.

Because your iniquity is great

And your sins are numerous,

I have done these things to you.

16 `Therefore all who devour R1507 you will be devoured;

And all your adversaries, every one of them, will R1508 go into captivity;

And those who plunder you will be for plunder,

And all who prey upon you I will give for prey.

17 `For I will restore F286 you to health R1509 F287

And I will heal you of your wounds,' declares the LORD,

`Because they have called you an outcast, R1510 saying:

"It is Zion; no one cares F288 for her."'

Restoration of Jacob

18 "Thus says the LORD,

`Behold, I will restore R1511 the fortunes F289 of the tents of Jacob

And have R1512 compassion on his dwelling places;

And the city R1513 will be rebuilt on its ruin,

And the palace R1514 will stand on its rightful place.

19 `From them will proceed thanksgiving R1515

And the voice of those who celebrate; R1516 F290

And I will multiply R1517 them and they will not be diminished;

I will also honor R1518 them and they will not be insignificant.

20 `Their F291 children also will be as formerly,

And their F292 congregation shall be established R1519 before Me;

And I will punish all their F292 oppressors.

21 `Their F293 leader R1520 shall be one of them,

And their F293 ruler shall come forth from their F293 midst;

And I will bring R1521 him near and he shall approach Me;

For who F294 would dare to risk his life to approach R1522 Me?' declares the LORD.

22 `You shall be My R1523 people,

And I will be your God.' "

23 Behold, the tempest R1524 of the LORD!

Wrath has gone forth,

A sweeping F295 tempest;

It will burst on the head of the wicked.

24 The fierce R1525 anger of the LORD will not turn back

Until He has performed and until He has accomplished

The intent of His heart;

In the latter R1526 days you will understand this.
