Jeremiah 4:19-31 [ Verse 28 in Original: Hebrew / Greek ]
[ Read Chapter | Discuss these Verses ]
19 My R193 soul, F43 my soul! F43 I am in anguish! Oh, F44 my heart! My heart R194 is pounding in me; I cannot be silent, Because you F45 have heard, O my soul, The sound R195 of the trumpet, The alarm of war. 20 Disaster R196 on disaster is proclaimed, For the whole R197 land is devastated; Suddenly my tents R198 are devastated, My curtains in an instant. 21 How long must I see the standard And hear the sound of the trumpet? 22 "For R199 My people are foolish, They know Me not; They are stupid children And have no understanding. They are shrewd to do R200 evil, But to do good they do not know." 23 I looked on the earth, and behold, it was R201 F46 formless and void; And to the heavens, and they had no light. 24 I looked on the mountains, and behold, they were quaking, R202 And all the hills moved F47 to and fro. 25 I looked, and behold, there was no man, And all the birds R203 of the heavens had fled. 26 I looked, and behold, the F48 fruitful R204 land was a wilderness, And all its cities were pulled down Before the LORD, before His fierce anger. 27 For thus says the LORD, "The whole R205 land shall be a desolation, Yet I will not R206 execute a complete destruction. 28 "For this the earth R207 shall mourn And the heavens R208 above be dark, Because I have spoken, R209 I have purposed, And I will not change F49 My mind, nor will I turn from it." 29 At the sound of the horseman and bowman every R210 city flees; They go R211 into the thickets and climb among the rocks; Every R212 city is forsaken, And no man dwells in them. 30 And you, O desolate one, what R213 will you do? Although you dress in scarlet, Although you decorate yourself with ornaments of gold, Although you enlarge R214 your eyes with paint, In vain you make yourself beautiful. Your lovers R215 F50 despise you; They seek your life. 31 For I heard a cry F51 as of a woman in labor, The anguish as of one giving birth to her first child, The cry F51 of the daughter of Zion gasping R216 for breath, Stretching R217 out her hands, F52 saying, "Ah, woe is me, for I F53 faint before murderers."
