Job Chides His Accusers
1 Then Job responded, F111
2 "Truly then you R310 are the people,
And with you wisdom will die!
3 "But I R311 have intelligence as well as you;
I am not inferior to you.
And who F112 does not know such things as these?
4 "I am a joke R312 to my F113 friends,
The one who called on God and He answered him;
The just and blameless R313 man is a joke.
5 "He F114 who is at ease holds calamity in contempt,
As prepared for those whose feet slip.
6 "The tents R314 of the destroyers prosper,
And those who provoke God are R315 secure,
Whom F115 God brings into R316 their power.
7 "But now ask the beasts, and let them teach you;
And the birds of the heavens, and let them tell you.
8 "Or speak to the earth, and let it teach you;
And let the fish of the sea declare to you.
9 "Who among all these does not know
That the R317 hand of the LORD has done this,
10 In R318 whose hand is the life of every living thing,
And the R319 breath of all mankind?
11 "Does not the R320 ear test words,
As the palate tastes F116 its food?
12 "Wisdom is with aged R321 men,
With long F117 life is understanding.
Job Speaks of the Power of God
13 "With Him are wisdom R322 and might; R322
To Him belong counsel and understanding. R323
14 "Behold, He tears R324 down, and it cannot be rebuilt;
He imprisons R325 F118 a man, and there F119 can be no release.
15 "Behold, He restrains R326 the waters, and they dry up;
And He sends R327 them out, and they inundate F120 the earth.
16 "With Him are strength and sound wisdom,
The misled R328 and the misleader belong to Him.
17 "He makes counselors R329 walk barefoot F121
And makes fools of judges. R330
18 "He loosens R331 the bond F122 of kings
And binds their loins with a girdle.
19 "He makes priests walk barefoot F123
And overthrows the R332 secure ones.
20 "He deprives the trusted ones of speech
And takes R333 away the discernment of the elders.
21 "He pours R334 contempt on nobles
And loosens R335 the belt of the strong.
22 "He reveals R336 mysteries from the darkness
And brings the deep darkness into light.
23 "He makes R337 the nations great, then destroys them;
He enlarges F124 the nations, then leads them away.
24 "He deprives R338 of intelligence the chiefs of the earth's people
And makes them wander in a pathless waste.
25 "They grope R339 in darkness with no light,
And He makes them stagger R340 like a drunken man.
