Jonah's Prayer

1 Then F10 Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from R28 the stomach of the fish, 2 and he said, "I called R29 out of my distress to the LORD, And He answered me. I cried for help from the depth F11 of Sheol; R30 You heard my voice.

3 "For You had cast R31 me into the deep,

Into the heart of the seas,

And the current engulfed F12 me.

All Your breakers R32 and billows passed over me.

4 "So I said, `I have been expelled R33 from Your F13 sight.

Nevertheless I will look again toward R34 Your holy temple.'

5 "Water R35 encompassed me to the point F14 of death.

The great deep R36 engulfed F15 me,

Weeds were wrapped around my head.

6 "I descended R37 to the roots of the mountains.

The earth with its bars R38 was around me forever,

But You have brought R39 up my life from the F16 pit, O LORD my God.

7 "While I F17 was fainting R40 away,

I remembered R41 the LORD,

And my prayer R42 came to You,

Into Your R43 holy temple.

8 "Those who regard R44 vain F18 idols

Forsake their faithfulness,

9 But I will sacrifice R45 to You

With the voice of thanksgiving.

That which I have vowed I will pay. R46

Salvation R47 is from the LORD."

10 Then the LORD commanded the fish, R48 and it vomited Jonah up onto the dry land.
