The Purifier

1 "Behold, R78 I am going to send My R79 messenger, F43 and he will clear R80 F44 the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple; and F45 the messenger R81 F43 of the covenant, in whom you delight, behold, He is coming," says the LORD of hosts. 2 "But who can endure R82 the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner's R83 fire and like fullers' F46 soap. 3 "He will sit as a smelter and purifier of silver, and He will purify R84 the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, so that they may present R85 to the LORD offerings F47 in righteousness. 4 "Then the offering F48 of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing R86 to the LORD as in the days R87 of old and as in former years.

5 "Then I will draw near to you for judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers R88 and against the adulterers R89 and against those who swear R90 falsely, and against those who oppress the wage R91 earner in his wages, the widow R92 and the orphan, F49 and those who turn aside the alien R93 F50 and do not fear F51 Me," says the LORD of hosts. 6 "For I, F52 the LORD, do R94 not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are F53 not consumed.

7 "From the days R95 of your fathers you have turned aside from My statutes and have not kept them. Return R96 to Me, and I will return to you," says the LORD of hosts. "But you say, `How shall we return?'

You Have Robbed God

8 "Will a man rob F54 God? Yet you are robbing Me! But you say, `How have we robbed You?' In tithes R97 and offerings. F55 9 "You are cursed R98 with a curse, for you are robbing F56 Me, the whole nation of you! 10 "Bring R99 the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food F57 in My house, and test Me now in this," says the LORD of hosts, "if I will not open R100 for you the windows of heaven and pour R101 out for you a blessing until it R102 F58 overflows. 11 "Then I will rebuke the devourer R103 for you, so that it will not destroy F59 the fruits of the ground; nor will your vine in the field cast its grapes," says the LORD of hosts. 12 "All R104 the nations will call you blessed, for you shall be a delightful R105 land," says the LORD of hosts.

13 "Your words have been arrogant F60 against Me," says the LORD. "Yet you say, `What have we spoken against You?' 14 "You have said, `It is vain R106 to serve God; and what profit R107 is it that we have kept His charge, and that we have walked in mourning before the LORD of hosts? 15 `So now we call R108 the arrogant blessed; not only are the doers of wickedness built up but they also test God and escape.' R109 "

The Book of Remembrance

16 Then those who feared F61 the LORD spoke to one another, and the LORD gave R110 attention and heard it, and a book R111 of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear F61 the LORD and who esteem His name. 17 "They will be Mine," R112 says the LORD of hosts, "on the day R113 that I prepare F62 My own R114 F63 possession, and I will spare F64 them as a man spares R115 F64 his own son who serves him." 18 So you will again distinguish R116 between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve Him.
