Destruction in Israel and Judah

1 The word R1 of the LORD which came to Micah R2 of Moresheth in the days of Jotham, R3 Ahaz R4 and Hezekiah, R5 kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.

2 Hear, O peoples, all of you; F1

Listen, R6 O earth and all F2 it contains,

And let the Lord GOD F3 be a witness R7 against you,

The Lord from His holy temple.

3 For behold, the LORD is coming R8 forth from His place.

He will come down and tread R9 on the high places of the earth. F4

4 The R10 mountains will melt under Him

And the valleys will be split,

Like wax before the fire,

Like water poured down a steep place.

5 All this is for the rebellion of Jacob

And for the sins of the house of Israel.

What is the rebellion R11 of Jacob?

Is it not Samaria? R12

What is the high R13 place F5 of Judah?

Is it not Jerusalem?

6 For I will make Samaria a heap R14 of ruins in F6 the open country,

Planting R15 places for a vineyard.

I will pour R16 her stones down into the valley

And will lay R17 bare her foundations.

7 All of her idols R18 will be smashed,

All of her earnings will be burned with fire

And all of her images I will make desolate,

For she collected them from a harlot's R19 earnings,

And to the earnings of a harlot they will return.

8 Because of this I must lament and wail,

I must go barefoot R20 and naked;

I must make a lament like the jackals R21

And a mourning like the ostriches.

9 For her wound R22 F7 is incurable,

For it R23 has come to Judah;

It has reached the gate R24 of my people,

Even to Jerusalem.

10 Tell R25 it not in Gath,

Weep not at all.

At Beth-le-aphrah F8 roll yourself in the dust.

11 Go F9 on your way, inhabitant of Shaphir, F10 in shameful R26 nakedness.

The inhabitant of Zaanan R27 F11 does not escape. F12

The lamentation of Beth-ezel: F13 "He will take from you its support." F14

12 For the inhabitant of Maroth F15

Becomes weak waiting R28 for good,

Because a calamity has come down from the LORD

To the gate R29 of Jerusalem.

13 Harness the chariot to the team of horses,

O inhabitant of Lachish-- R30

She was the beginning of sin

To the daughter of Zion--

Because in you were found

The rebellious R31 acts of Israel.

14 Therefore you will give parting gifts R32

On behalf of Moresheth-gath;

The houses of Achzib R33 will become a deception R34

To the kings of Israel.

15 Moreover, I will bring on you

The one who takes possession,

O inhabitant of Mareshah. R35 F16

The glory of Israel will enter Adullam. R36

16 Make yourself bald R37 and cut off your hair,

Because of the children of your delight;

Extend your baldness like the eagle,

For they will go R38 from you into exile.
