Woe to Oppressors

1 Woe to those who scheme R39 iniquity,

Who work out evil on their beds!

When R40 F17 morning comes, they do it,

For it is in the power R41 of their hands.

2 They covet R42 fields and then seize R43 them,

And houses, and take them away.

They rob R44 F18 a man and his house,

A man and his inheritance.

3 Therefore thus says the LORD, "Behold, I am planning R45 against this family R46 a calamity From which you cannot R47 remove your necks; And you will not walk haughtily, R48 For it will be an evil R49 time.

4 "On that day they will take R50 up against you a taunt F19

And utter R51 F20 a bitter lamentation and say,

`We are completely destroyed! R52

He exchanges the portion of my people;

How He removes it from me!

To the apostate He apportions R53 our fields.'

5 "Therefore you will have no one stretching R54 F21 a measuring line

For you by lot in the assembly of the LORD.

6 `Do R55 not speak F22 out,' so they speak F22 out.

But if they F23 do not R56 speak F22 out concerning these things,

Reproaches R57 will not be turned back.

7 "Is it being said, O house of Jacob:

`Is the Spirit of the LORD impatient? R58

Are these His doings?'

Do not My words do R59 good

To the one walking R60 uprightly?

8 "Recently F24 My people have arisen as an enemy-- R61

You strip R62 the robe F25 off the garment

From unsuspecting R63 passers-by,

From those returned from war.

9 "The women of My people you evict, R64

Each one from her pleasant house.

From her children you take My splendor R65 forever.

10 "Arise and go,

For this is no place of R66 rest

Because of the uncleanness R67 that brings on destruction,

A painful destruction.

11 "If a man walking after wind and falsehood R68

Had told lies and said,

`I will speak F26 out to you concerning wine R69 and liquor,'

He would be spokesman F27 to this R70 people.

12 "I will surely assemble R71 all of you, Jacob,

I will surely gather the remnant R72 of Israel.

I will put them together like sheep in the fold;

Like a flock in the midst of its pasture

They will be noisy with men.

13 "The breaker goes up before them;

They break out, pass through the gate and go out by it.

So their king goes on before them,

And the LORD at their head."
