Thanksgiving

1 Paul R1 and Timothy, R2 bond-servants R3 of Christ R4 Jesus,

To all R5 the saints R6 F1 in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, R7 including F2 the overseers R8 and deacons: R9 2 Grace R10 to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 I R11 thank my God in all my remembrance of you, 4 always offering prayer with joy in my R12 every prayer for you all, 5 in view of your participation R13 F3 in the gospel R14 from R15 the first day until now. 6 For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the R16 day of Christ Jesus. 7 For F4 it R17 is only right for me to feel this way about you all, because I have R18 you in my heart, since both in my imprisonment R19 F5 and in the defense R20 and confirmation of the gospel, R21 you all are partakers of grace with me. 8 For God R22 is my witness, how I long for you all with the affection F6 of Christ R23 Jesus. 9 And this I pray, that your R24 love may abound still more and more in real R25 knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may approve R26 F7 the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until F8 the R27 day of Christ; 11 having been filled with the fruit R28 of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

The Gospel Is Preached

12 Now I want you to know, brethren, that my circumstances have R29 turned out for the greater progress of the gospel, R30 13 so that my imprisonment R31 F9 in the cause of Christ has become well known throughout the whole praetorian F10 guard and to everyone R32 else, 14 and that most of the brethren, F11 trusting in the Lord because of my imprisonment, R33 F12 have far R34 more courage to speak the word of God without fear. 15 Some, R35 to be sure, are preaching Christ even from F13 envy and strife, but some also from F13 good will; 16 the latter do it out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel; R36 17 the former proclaim Christ out R37 of selfish ambition rather F14 than from pure motives, thinking to cause me distress in my imprisonment. R38 F15 18 What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and in this I rejoice.

Yes, and I will rejoice, 19 for I know that this will turn out for my deliverance F16 through R39 your prayers F17 and the provision of the R40 Spirit of Jesus Christ, 20 according to my earnest R41 expectation and hope, R42 that I will not be put to shame in anything, but that with all R43 boldness, Christ will even now, as always, be exalted R44 in my body, whether R45 by life or by death.

To Live Is Christ

21 For to me, to R46 live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 But F18 if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful R47 labor for me; and I do not know which F19 to choose. 23 But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire R48 to depart and be R49 with Christ, for that is very much better; 24 yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake. 25 Convinced R50 of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy in F20 the faith, 26 so that your proud R51 confidence in me may abound in Christ Jesus through my coming to you again.

27 Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy R52 of the gospel R53 of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing R54 firm in one R55 spirit, with one mind F21 striving R56 together for the faith of the gospel; 28 in no way alarmed by your opponents--which is a sign R57 of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God. 29 For to you it R58 has been granted for Christ's sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer R59 for His sake, 30 experiencing the same conflict R60 which you R61 saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
