The Pursuit of Wisdom Brings Security

1 My son, if you will receive R50 my words

And treasure R51 my commandments within you,

2 Make R52 your ear attentive to wisdom,

Incline your heart to understanding;

3 For if you cry for discernment,

Lift F11 your voice for understanding;

4 If you seek her as silver R53

And search for her as for hidden R54 treasures;

5 Then you will discern the fear R55 of the LORD

And discover the knowledge of God.

6 For the R56 LORD gives wisdom;

From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

7 He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;

He is a shield R57 to those who walk in integrity,

8 Guarding the paths of justice,

And He preserves R58 the way of His godly ones.

9 Then you will discern righteousness R59 and justice

And equity and every good R60 course.

10 For wisdom R61 will enter your heart

And knowledge R62 will be pleasant to your soul;

11 Discretion will guard R63 you,

Understanding will watch over you,

12 To deliver R64 you from the way of evil,

From the man who speaks perverse R65 things;

13 From those who leave R66 the paths of uprightness

To walk in the ways R67 of darkness;

14 Who delight R68 in doing evil

And rejoice in the perversity of evil;

15 Whose paths are crooked, R69

And who are devious in their ways;

16 To deliver R70 you from the strange woman,

From the adulteress R71 F12 who flatters with her words;

17 That leaves the companion R72 of her youth

And forgets the covenant R73 of her God;

18 For her R74 house sinks F13 down to death

And her tracks lead to the dead; F14

19 None who R75 go to her return again,

Nor do they reach the paths R76 of life.

20 So you will walk R77 in the way of good men

And keep to the paths R78 of the righteous.

21 For the R79 upright will live F15 in the land

And the R80 blameless will remain in it;

22 But the R81 wicked will be cut off from the land

And the R82 treacherous will be uprooted R83 from it.
