Proverbs 31:1-9 [ Verse 4 in Original: Hebrew / Greek ]
[ Read Chapter | Discuss these Verses ]
1 The words of King Lemuel, the oracle F441 which his mother taught him: 2 What, O my son? And what, O son R1160 of my womb? And what, O son of my vows? R1161 3 Do R1162 not give your strength to women, Or your ways to that which destroys R1163 kings. 4 It is not for kings, R1164 O Lemuel, It is not for kings to drink R1165 wine, Or for rulers to desire strong drink, 5 For they will drink and forget what is decreed, And pervert R1166 the rights F442 of all the afflicted. F443 6 Give strong drink to him who is perishing, R1167 And wine to him whose R1168 F444 life is bitter. 7 Let him drink and forget his poverty And remember his trouble no more. 8 Open R1169 your mouth for the mute, For the rights F445 of all the unfortunate. F446 9 Open your mouth, judge R1170 righteously, And defend F447 the rights R1171 of the afflicted and needy.
