Prayer of a Suffering Penitent.

A Psalm of David, for a memorial.

1 O LORD, rebuke R1149 me not in Your wrath,

And chasten me not in Your burning anger.

2 For Your arrows R1150 have sunk deep into me,

And Your R1151 hand has pressed down on me.

3 There is no R1152 soundness in my flesh because R1153 of Your indignation;

There is no health in R1154 my bones because of my sin.

4 For my iniquities R1155 are gone over my head;

As a heavy burden they weigh too much for me.

5 My wounds F332 grow foul and fester

Because of my R1156 folly.

6 I am bent over and greatly R1157 bowed down;

I go R1158 mourning all day long.

7 For my loins are filled with burning, R1159

And there is no R1160 soundness in my flesh.

8 I am benumbed R1161 and badly F333 crushed;

I groan R1162 F334 because of the agitation F335 of my heart.

9 Lord, all my R1163 desire is before F336 You;

And my sighing R1164 is not hidden from You.

10 My heart throbs, my R1165 strength fails me;

And the light R1166 of my eyes, even that F337 has F338 gone from me.

11 My loved R1167 F339 ones and my friends stand aloof from my plague;

And my kinsmen stand R1168 afar off.

12 Those who seek R1169 my life lay R1170 snares for me;

And those who seek R1171 to injure me have threatened F340 destruction,

And they devise R1172 treachery all day long.

13 But I, like a deaf man, do not hear;

And I am like a mute R1173 man who does not open his mouth.

14 Yes, I am like a man who does not hear,

And in whose mouth are no arguments.

15 For I R1174 hope F341 in You, O LORD;

You will R1175 answer, O Lord my God.

16 For I said, "May they not rejoice over me,

Who, when my foot slips, would R1176 magnify themselves against me."

17 For I am ready R1177 to fall,

And my R1178 sorrow F342 is continually before me.

18 For I confess R1179 F343 my iniquity;

I am full of anxiety R1180 because of my sin.

19 But my enemies R1181 are vigorous and strong, F344

And many are those who hate R1182 me wrongfully.

20 And those who repay R1183 evil for good,

They oppose R1184 me, because I follow what is good.

21 Do not forsake me, O LORD;

O my God, do R1185 not be far from me!

22 Make haste R1186 to help me,

O Lord, my R1187 salvation!
