A Cry of Distress and Imprecation on Adversaries.

For the choir director; according to Shoshannim. F680 A Psalm of David.

1 Save me, O God,

For the waters R2027 have threatened F681 my life.

2 I have sunk in deep mire, R2028 and there is no foothold;

I have come into deep waters, and a flood R2029 F682 overflows me.

3 I am weary R2030 with my crying; my throat is parched;

My eyes R2031 fail while I wait for my God.

4 Those who R2032 hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head;

Those who would destroy F683 me are R2033 powerful, being wrongfully my enemies;

What R2034 I did not steal, I then have to restore.

5 O God, it is You who knows my R2035 folly,

And my R2036 wrongs are not hidden from You.

6 May those who wait for You not be R2037 ashamed through me, O Lord GOD F684 of hosts;

May those who seek You not be dishonored through me, O God of Israel,

7 Because for R2038 Your sake I have borne reproach;

Dishonor R2039 has covered my face.

8 I have become estranged R2040 from F685 my brothers

And an alien to my mother's sons.

9 For zeal R2041 for Your house has consumed me,

And the R2042 reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me.

10 When I wept in R2043 my soul with fasting,

It became my reproach.

11 When I made sackcloth R2044 my clothing,

I became a R2045 byword to them.

12 Those who sit R2046 in the gate talk about me,

And I am the song R2047 F686 of the drunkards.

13 But as for me, my prayer is to You, O LORD, at R2048 an acceptable time;

O God, in the greatness R2049 of Your lovingkindness,

Answer me with Your F687 saving truth.

14 Deliver me from the mire R2050 and do not let me sink;

May I be delivered R2051 from my F688 foes and from the deep R2050 F689 waters.

15 May the flood R2052 F690 of water not overflow me

Nor the deep swallow me up,

Nor the pit R2053 shut its mouth on me.

16 Answer me, O LORD, for Your R2054 lovingkindness is good;

According R2055 to the greatness of Your compassion, turn R2056 to me,

17 And do R2057 not hide Your face from Your servant,

For I am in R2058 distress; answer me quickly.

18 Oh draw near to my soul and redeem R2059 it;

Ransom R2060 me because of my enemies!

19 You know my reproach R2061 and my shame and my dishonor;

All my adversaries are before F691 You.

20 Reproach has broken R2062 my heart and I am so sick.

And I R2063 looked for sympathy, but there was none,

And for comforters, R2064 but I found none.

21 They also gave me gall R2065 F692 for F693 my food

And for my thirst they gave R2066 me vinegar to drink.

22 May their R2067 table before them become a snare;

And when R2068 F694 they are in peace, may it become a trap.

23 May their eyes R2069 grow dim so that they cannot see,

And make their loins R2070 shake continually.

24 Pour R2071 out Your indignation on them,

And may Your burning anger overtake them.

25 May their camp R2072 F695 be desolate;

May none dwell in their tents.

26 For they have persecuted R2073 him whom You R2074 Yourself have smitten,

And they tell of the pain of those whom You R2075 have wounded. F696

27 Add iniquity R2076 to their iniquity,

And may R2077 they not come into Your R2078 righteousness.

28 May they be blotted R2079 out of the book R2080 of life

And may they not be recorded R2081 F697 with the righteous.

29 But I am afflicted R2082 and in pain;

May F698 Your salvation, O God, set R2083 me securely on high.

30 I will praise R2084 the name of God with song

And magnify R2085 Him with thanksgiving. R2086

31 And it will please R2087 the LORD better than an ox

Or a young bull with horns and hoofs.

32 The humble R2088 have F699 seen it and are glad;

You who seek God, let R2089 your heart revive. F700

33 For the R2090 LORD hears the needy

And does R2091 not despise His who are prisoners.

34 Let heaven R2092 and earth praise Him,

The seas and everything R2093 that moves in them.

35 For God will save R2094 Zion and build R2095 the cities of Judah,

That they may dwell there and possess R2096 it.

36 The descendants R2097 F701 of His servants will inherit it,

And those who love His name will R2098 dwell in it.
