Prophecies against Neighboring Nations

1 The burden F75 of the word of the LORD is against the land of Hadrach, with Damascus R223 as its resting place (for the eyes of men, especially of all the tribes of Israel, are toward the LORD),

2 And Hamath R224 also, which borders on it;

Tyre R225 and Sidon, R226 though F76 they F77 are very R225 wise.

3 For Tyre built herself a fortress R227

And piled R228 up silver like dust,

And gold R229 like the mire of the streets.

4 Behold, the Lord will dispossess R230 her

And cast her wealth into the sea;

And she will be consumed R231 with fire.

5 Ashkelon will see it and be afraid.

Gaza too will writhe in great pain;

Also Ekron, for her expectation has been confounded.

Moreover, the king will perish from Gaza,

And Ashkelon will not be inhabited.

6 And a mongrel F78 race will dwell in Ashdod, R232

And I will cut off the pride of the Philistines.

7 And I will remove their blood from their mouth

And their detestable things from between their teeth.

Then they also will be a remnant for our God,

And be like a clan F79 in Judah,

And Ekron like a Jebusite.

8 But I will camp around My house because F80 of an army,

Because of him R233 who passes by and returns;

And no R234 oppressor will pass over them anymore,

For now I have seen with My eyes.

9 Rejoice R235 greatly, O daughter of Zion!

Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem!

Behold, your king R236 is coming to you;

He is just R237 F81 and endowed R238 with salvation,

Humble, R239 and mounted on a donkey,

Even on a colt, R240 the foal F82 of a donkey.

10 I will cut R241 off the chariot from Ephraim

And the horse R242 from Jerusalem;

And the bow R243 of war will be cut off.

And He will speak peace R244 to the nations;

And His dominion R245 will be from sea to sea,

And from the River F83 to the ends of the earth.

Deliverance of Judah and Ephraim

11 As for you also, because of the blood R246 of My covenant with you,

I have set your prisoners R247 free from the waterless F84 pit.

12 Return to the stronghold, R248 F85 O prisoners who F86 have the hope; R249

This very day I am declaring that I will restore double R250 to you.

13 For I will bend R251 Judah as F87 My bow,

I will fill the bow with Ephraim.

And I will stir up your sons, O Zion, against your sons, O Greece; R252

And I will make you like a warrior's R253 sword.

14 Then the LORD will appear over R254 them,

And His arrow R255 will go forth like lightning;

And the Lord GOD F88 will blow the trumpet, R256

And will march in the storm R257 winds of the south.

15 The R258 LORD of hosts will defend them.

And they will devour R259 and trample on the sling R260 stones;

And they will drink and be boisterous R261 as with wine;

And they will be filled like a sacrificial basin,

Drenched like the corners R262 of the altar.

16 And the LORD their God will save R263 them in that day

As the flock of His people;

For they are as the stones of a crown, R264

Sparkling F89 in His land.

17 For what comeliness R265 F90 and beauty R266 will be theirs! F91

Grain will make the young men flourish, and new wine the virgins.
