Judgments on Judah's Enemies

1 Gather yourselves together, yes, gather, R46

O nation without R47 shame, F13

2 Before the decree takes F14 effect--

The day passes like R48 the chaff--

Before the burning R49 anger of the LORD comes upon you,

Before the day R50 of the LORD'S anger comes upon you.

3 Seek R51 the LORD,

All you humble R52 of the earth F15

Who have carried out His ordinances; F16

Seek R53 righteousness, seek humility.

Perhaps you will be hidden R54

In the day of the LORD'S anger.

4 For Gaza R55 will be abandoned

And Ashkelon a desolation;

Ashdod R55 will be driven out at noon

And Ekron R55 will be uprooted.

5 Woe to the inhabitants of the seacoast,

The nation of the Cherethites! R56 F17

The word of the LORD is against R57 you,

O Canaan, R58 land of the Philistines;

And I will destroy R59 you

So that there will be no R60 inhabitant.

6 So the seacoast will be pastures, R61

With caves F18 for shepherds and folds for flocks.

7 And the coast will be

For the remnant R62 of the house of Judah,

They will pasture R63 on it.

In the houses of Ashkelon they will lie down at evening;

For the LORD their God will care R64 for them

And restore R65 their fortune.

8 "I have heard the taunting R66 F19 of Moab

And the revilings R67 of the sons of Ammon,

With which they have taunted F20 My people

And become R68 F21 arrogant against their territory.

9 "Therefore, as I live," declares the LORD of hosts,

The God of Israel,

"Surely Moab R69 will be like Sodom R70

And the sons of Ammon R71 like Gomorrah-- R72

A place possessed by nettles and salt pits,

And a perpetual desolation.

The remnant of My people will plunder R73 them

And the remainder of My nation will inherit them."

10 This they will have in return for their pride, R74 because they have taunted R75 F22 and become F23 arrogant against the people of the LORD of hosts. 11 The LORD will be terrifying R76 to them, for He will starve F24 all R77 the gods of the earth; and all the coastlands R78 of the nations will bow R79 down to Him, everyone from his own place.

12 "You also, O Ethiopians, R80 will be slain by My sword."

13 And He will stretch R81 out His hand against the north

And destroy Assyria, R82

And He will make Nineveh R83 a desolation,

Parched like the wilderness.

14 Flocks will lie down in her midst,

All F25 beasts which range in herds;

Both the pelican R84 F26 and the hedgehog

Will lodge in the F27 tops of her pillars;

Birds F28 will sing in the window,

Desolation will be on the threshold;

For He has laid bare the cedar work.

15 This is the exultant R85 city

Which dwells R86 securely,

Who says in her heart,

"I R87 am, and there is no one besides me."

How she has become a desolation, R88

A resting place for beasts!

Everyone R89 who passes by her will hiss

And wave his hand in contempt.
