Woe to Jerusalem and the Nations

1 Woe to her who is rebellious R90 and defiled, R91

The tyrannical R92 city!

2 She heeded R93 no voice,

She accepted R94 no instruction.

She did not trust R95 in the LORD,

She did not draw R96 near to her God.

3 Her princes R97 within her are roaring lions,

Her judges are wolves R98 at evening;

They leave nothing for the morning.

4 Her prophets are reckless, R99 treacherous men;

Her priests R100 have profaned the sanctuary.

They have done violence to the law.

5 The LORD is righteous R101 within R102 her;

He will do R103 no injustice.

Every R104 morning He brings His justice to light;

He does not fail.

But the unjust knows R105 no shame.

6 "I have cut off nations;

Their corner towers are in ruins.

I have made their streets desolate, R106

With no one passing by;

Their cities R107 are laid waste,

Without a man, without R108 an inhabitant.

7 "I said, `Surely you will revere Me,

Accept R109 instruction.'

So her dwelling will not R110 be cut off

According to all that I have appointed concerning her.

But they were eager to corrupt R111 all their deeds.

8 "Therefore wait R112 for Me," declares the LORD,

"For the day when I rise up as a witness.

Indeed, My decision is to gather R113 nations,

To assemble kingdoms,

To pour out on them My indignation,

All My burning anger;

For all R114 the earth will be devoured

By the fire of My zeal.

9 "For then I will give F29 to the peoples purified R115 lips,

That all of them may call R116 on the name of the LORD,

To serve Him shoulder F30 to shoulder.

10 "From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia R117

My worshipers, F31 My F32 dispersed ones,

Will bring R118 My offerings.

11 "In that day you will feel R119 no shame

Because of all your deeds

By which you have rebelled against Me;

For then I will remove from your midst

Your proud, R120 exulting ones,

And you will never again be haughty

On My holy R121 mountain.

A Remnant of Israel

12 "But I will leave among you

A humble R122 and lowly people,

And they will take R123 refuge in the name of the LORD.

13 "The remnant R124 of Israel will do R125 no wrong

And tell R126 no lies,

Nor will a deceitful tongue

Be found in their mouths;

For they will feed R127 and lie down

With no one to make them tremble."

14 Shout for joy, O daughter of Zion!

Shout R128 in triumph, O Israel!

Rejoice and exult with all your heart,

O daughter of Jerusalem!

15 The LORD has taken away His R129 judgments against you,

He has cleared away your enemies.

The King of Israel, the LORD, is in R130 your midst;

You will fear R131 disaster no more.

16 In R132 that day it will be said to Jerusalem:

"Do R133 not be afraid, O Zion;

Do R134 not let your hands fall limp.

17 "The LORD your God is in R135 your midst,

A victorious R136 F33 warrior.

He will exult R137 over you with joy,

He will be F34 quiet in His love,

He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.

18 "I will gather those who grieve R138 about the appointed feasts--

They came F35 from you, O Zion;

The reproach of exile is a burden on them. F36

19 "Behold, I am going to deal at that time

With all your oppressors, R139

I will save the lame R140

And gather the outcast,

And I will turn their shame R141 into praise R142 and renown

In all the earth.

20 "At that time I will bring R143 you in,

Even at the time when I gather you together;

Indeed, I will give you renown R144 and praise

Among all the peoples of the earth,

When I restore R145 your fortunes before your eyes,"

Says the LORD.
