Today's Word - March 8

"equip you with every good thing to do His will" Hebrews 13:21

Equip - In Greek katartisai. This word is made up of two Greek words, kata and artizo. Kata is a prefix that means brings emphasis to a word. Here it strengthens the relationship. It means something like "to make it the aim or purpose of". Aritzo comes from a word that means to be completely fit and sufficient for the job. You will recognize the term in our English word artisan one who is completely qualified to do the work, a craftsman.

The author of Hebrews is concluding his letter with a prayer. It is a prayer that God will completely outfit those who read his letter to do God's will. Do we often struggle with the question, "What is God's will for me?" Here we see a prayer and a promise. God is training and equipping his followers with everything they need to do what he wants them to do. This is God's role and His responsibility. He wants us to become artisans for performing His will. Even more importantly, we are told that God is equipping us with every good thing needed to accomplish our task. God makes craftsmen of his children. There are no apprentices when he is done. No one just passes. He produces only A+ students, completely ready to take on His tasks.

Today we can have confidence that God is making us into completely fit and sufficient stewards. We won't lack anything to accomplish His purpose for us. So, go ahead. Follow through. You have every good thing going for you.
