(mat tuh ni' uh) Personal name meaning “gift of Yah.” 1. Tabernacle musician-prophet in David's time (1 Chronicles 25:4). 2. Ancestor of Jahaziel (2 Chronicles 20:14). 3. Member of the Asaphite subclan of Levites who participated in Hezekiah's reforms (2 Chronicles 29:13). 4. Original name of King Zedekiah of Judah (2 Kings 24:17). 5. Asaphite among the first to return from Exile (1 Chronicles 9:15). 6. Levitic leader of the Temple choir in Zerubbabel's time (Nehemiah 11:17,Nehemiah 11:22). 7. Levitic Temple gatekeeper (Nehemiah 12:25). 8. Father of the Levite Shemaiah (Nehemiah 12:35). 9. Grandfather of Hanan (Nehemiah 13:13). 10.-13. Four of those who returned from Exile with foreign wives (Ezra 10:26-27,Ezra 10:30,Ezra 10:37). Some of 5–13 may be identical.
