ELIAB (ih li' ab) Personal name meaning, “God is father.” 1. Leader of tribe of Zebulun under Moses (Numbers 1:9). He brought the tribe's offering at the dedication of the altar (Numbers 7:24). 2. Member of tribe of Reuben and father of Dathan and Abiram. See Abiram; Dathan. 3. First son of Jesse to pass by and be rejected when Samuel searched for king to replace Saul (1 Samuel 16:6). He fought in Saul's army (1 Samuel 17:13) and became angry at David's interest in fighting Goliath (1 Samuel 17:28). His daughter married King Rehoboam (2 Chronicles 11:18). He is apparently called Elihu in
1 Chronicles 27:18. 4. A Levite in the line of Kohath and ancestor of Samuel (1 Chronicles 6:27). The same person is apparently called Elihu in
1 Samuel 1:1 and Eliel (1 Chronicles 6:34). 5. A Levite appointed as a Temple musician under David (1 Chronicles 15:18,1 Chronicles 15:20;
1 Chronicles 16:5). 6. A military leader from the tribe of Gad under David (1 Chronicles 12:9).
