(am' mih ehl) Personal name meaning, “people of God” or “God is of my people,” that is God is my relative. 1. The spy representing the tribe of Dan whom Moses sent to spy out the Promised Land. He was one of ten who brought bad report and led people to refuse to enter the land (Numbers 13:12). 2. Father of Machir, in whose house Mephibosheth, son of Jonathan and grandson of Saul, lived after the death of his father and grandfather. The family lived in Lo-debar (2 Samuel 9:4). See

2 Samuel 11:3 speaks of Bathsheba, daughter of Eliam. Many Bible students think these verses are talking about the same person, whose names have been slightly altered in the process of copying the manuscripts. 4. Gatekeeper of Temple whom David appointed (1 Chronicles 26:5).
