JASHUB

(jay' sshuhb) Personal name meaning, “He turns to” or “He returns.” The name is found in several Near Eastern cultures. 1. Clan leader in tribe of Issachar (Numbers 26:24). Genesis 46:13 names him Job 2:1. Man with foreign wife condemned by Ezra as bringing temptation to foreign worship into the community (Ezra 10:29). 3. Part of name of Isaiah's son (Isaiah 7:3). See Shear-jashub. 4. Some interpreters see a town named Jashub in Joshua 17:7, a border town of the tribe of Manasseh (REB). This would be modern Jasuf, eight miles south of Shechem.
