JEREMOTH

(jehr' ih mahth) Personal name meaning, “swellings.” 1. Member of tribe of Benjamin (1 Chronicles 8:14), perhaps to be identified with Jeroham (1 Chronicles 8:27). 2. Two Israelites with foreign wives condemned by Ezra (Ezra 10:26-27). 3. Name written in Hebrew text of Israelite with foreign wife under Ezra (Ezra 10:29). Early Hebrew scribes and earliest translators read “and Ramoth.” 4. Descendant of Benjamin and leader in that tribe (1 Chronicles 7:8). 5. Priest in days of David and Solomon (1 Chronicles 23:23; spelled Jerimoth in 1 Chronicles 24:30). 6. Temple musician (1 Chronicles 25:4, Jerimoth), possibly the same person as head of fifteenth division of priests (1 Chronicles 25:22). See Jerimoh.
