ABIEZER

(ay' bi ee' zuhr) Personal and place name meaning, “my Father is help.” 1. Son of Manasseh and grandson of Joseph (Joshua 17:2; 1 Chronicles 7:18). 2. Territory belonging to clan of Abiezer of tribe of Manasseh located in southwest part of Manasseh's territory and including towns of Elmattan, Ophrah, and Tetel. The territory was famous for grape production (Judges 8:2; Samaritan, Ostraca) and was home of the judge Gideon (Judges 6:11, Judges 6:24, Judges 6:34; Judges 8:32). 3. Member of David's 30 heroes (2 Samuel 23:27; 1 Chronicles 11:28) and an administrator of David's forces in the ninth month (1 Chronicles 27:12). See Jeezer.
