MAHLON (mah' lahn) Personal name meaning, “sickly.” One of the two sons of Elimelech and Naomi (Ruth 1:2,Ruth 1:5), and the husband of Ruth the Moabitess (Ruth 4:9-10). Mahlon died while the family was sojourning in Moab because of a famine in their homeland of Israel. The reason for Mahlon's death is not given. Boaz, a distant relative to Mahlon, married the dead man's widow, Ruth.
