SINEW

The tendons and connective tissue that connect muscles to bone in the body. The literal use is seen in Scripture (Job 10:11; Job 30:17; Ezekiel 37:6,Ezekiel 37:8). Isaiah 48:4 uses it in a figurative way to show rebellion against God. Because of Jacob's wrestling with the angel that resulted in the angel's striking the sinew of his thigh, the Jews cut away this sinew and did not eat it (Genesis 32:24-32). See Body.
