Hebrew - sleep

The natural state of rest for human beings and animals (Psalms 4:8). God causes state called “deep sleep,” sometimes for revelation (Genesis 2:21; Genesis 15:12; Job 4:13), and sometimes to prevent prophetic vision (Isaiah 29:10; compare 1 Samuel 26:12). It is also used as a sign of laziness (Proverbs 19:15). Sleep is a figure of physical death (John 11:11-14; 1 Corinthians 15:51). See Death; Eternal Life.
